Ok so there I was going for a drive with De@no and all of a sudden WHAM..

Hear something come loose and it turns out to be the differential that's fuxz0rd out.. Couldn't even move the car forward or back.. Back wheels were just locked..

What a mission getting it off the flatbed tow-truck.. Getting it up was "easy".. Dude just attached the cable and yanked the thing up there (after a profound snap came from the differential area, loosening the wheel "lock")

Odometer: 2995 km

Sitting in the car park of the BMW dealership now.. They cant even move it into the workshop.. Gotta take the prop-shaft off just to get the thing moving..

Wonder how long it's gonna take to fix..
:cursin:

:(

Don't make em like they used to eh...

Looks like no breakfast run for me :(

Wow. Glad you're ok. Ride the maintenance plan on this one. Just don't tell them:

Man there's almost not a time I drive where I don't kick out the back or hit some wheelspin..

To me, the drive feels incomplete when I reach my destination if I haven't done so.. Dunno just a mental thing..

So yeah.. My potenza's are starting to show some very evident wear.. And i'm only on +-3000km... :(

4* RFT+17"+Potenzas... Cringe thinking about the cost..

Hellas.. Ironic isn't it??

Haha. But seriously if you're telling me the BMW's nowdays can't handle a bit of wheelspin then I seriously overestimated BMW cars..

Will be covered by motor plan for sure but still I find it unacceptable?

The car is still brand new and I really do respect my car.. Sure I hit a few wheelspins every now and again, but I never push my car out of it's limits.. I thought that's how a BMW is meant to be driven?

This is crazy!!! Sorry to hear man @ri :( but I mean REALLY! this is not even a 130i let alone a 135i, I shudder to think how quickly they will mutilate a diff if your 120i killed it

yeah glad we ok too :)

haha thanks FR..

hmm maybe they put stronger diff's on the high-er end models I dunno?

really disappointed though..:(

I think they do but stronger diffs on the higher end models...not sure?

I was totally surprised, my car is just over 4 years old, with the same power as ari's and iv never had any problems with the diff.

I think its unlucky and maybe a defect in that particular diff.

Should ask them if they can put an LSD in :)

jees, I would milk this :)

Haha what you mean? How do i milk it? :thinker:

But really, is this normal or just some freak accident?

Does this mean I can't wheelspin anymore when I get the car back in fear of it f**king out again?

:(

My thoughts exactly hahaha. Was actually just looking at some Quaife LSD's :p Is the LSD standard on the 135i? Not really sure.. Some say it is, some say it isn't...

@ri! your car isnt dead! haha just uhm in ICU! dont say RIP :slap:

Haha.. Feels like it to me :(

Guys could it have anything to do with the fact that it didn't have a post break-in service?

I read many people in the States have this on their US cars, but when I spoke to my salesman here after I reached my 2000km break in period he laughed at me saying that these are "new-age" cars and oil change etc. is not needed...

Maybe differential fluid was low or something? Apparently they supposed to check that during post-break-in service.. :dropjaw:

Its a defective diff IMO.

Was speaking to ma papa and he said that pulling off hard and spinning into a corner or with a corner is very bad for a diff. Didnt realy explain why... anyone have anymore info?
Is it because the diff is trying to do its job of keeping the wheels at different speeds cornering, and then still dealing with wheelspin? too much pressure on the splines in the diff?

regardless, it should not have failed so catastrophicaly :mmm: Get them to put a 130i diff in :)

Haha will try :) Or maybe the E-Diff from the 135i..

Hmm.. I know it could be a million and one reasons, but what if the differential fluid was somehow leaking.. Could lack of differential fluid have caused this?

I agree though.. Definitely not healthy..

...clean dash...

I agree with most of the posts that even if you drifted the car from the showroom floor to your house, no diff should last only 3000km. But then, maybe you are the one in a thousand that got the dif that was manufactured on the friday afternoon shift...
