Hi Guys

Can the E36 guru's please help or point me in the right direction to get the info ?

I would like to know the following w.r.t. to the E36 328i BMW's that are found in SA:

1. Did they come in an Individual or Motorsport package ?
2. How do I identify them to kno that thety are Individual/Motorsport ?
3. Links to get info and pics of them maybe.

I'm contemplating looking for a E36 328i, and have seen "Individuals" and "Motorsport" ones, but I do not know if they have just been kitted out like that by the owners.

What common problems does the E36 328i have, and what is a fair price for one ?

Any help will help.

If it doesnt have an anthracite head liner, it simply IS NOT an individual motorsport. There was no either or with the e36, its an iM

Here is an individual motorsport buildsheet. Mine actually :)

Freerider, 328ii, Zabbo and sclass(i think) has 328i individuals, so yes they do really exist. AFAIK the 318 posing as an M3 was classified as the motorsport and the 328 as the individual.
It is supposed to look like the 4dr M3 inside and out, bar the mechanicals.
Mechanically they were identical to the normal 328

Ok, i see freerider got here first. :=):
I would say a pristine 328iM would be worth in the region of R65k :dunno:

Personally, I wouldnt even entertain an offer of 80k on my car, its actually quite interesting how many people ask if its for sale.

They can be had for as little as 45k'ish, but expect to get what you pay for.

Thanks for the confidence shown in my car - it is however off the market for now -- long story.

The easiest identifiers are the following:
- M3 bodykit (can be added obviously) - those that were added however almost always don't replace the rear diffuser which is a dead giveaway
- Wheels: 1996 and earlier came with 17" BBS multispoke wheels like i had and the 1996 - 1998 models came with the 17" Contours
- Seats: They all came with Sport Seats and earlier models had cloth inserts. The late 1996 to 1998 models had the m-colours in the seats.
- They also came with the m-sport suspensions

I hope this helps.

As far as i know the individual concept was BMW created options that could apply to any model.
The Motorsport models had wider door beadings with the letter M on it very much like the M3,
and obviously could have 'individual' options fitted. Also the Motorsport models engine power
was raised to 150kw instead of the standard 145kw to overcome the drag of the aerokit.

The Individual models are generally cheaper than Motorsport ones.

Thanx 328ii !!

Yes, I was having some seriuos BMW withdrawl. I still miss my E36 M3 3.2 very much, but maintaining them is just too expensive.

Glad to see you are still going strong !

As far as I know from copious amounts of reading, is that the only m- badged cars we received were the 318 motorsport, this was just made to look like an m3, as stated above.further more from what I've read no other e36's were M badged at all. Although cars could be ordered with sport suspension (M-technik) and with sport bumpers side skirts. But these weren't labelled M's. I do believe a super rare version was produced which only came in alpine white with m-techik badges on the side skirts, door handles that said motor sport on them. Etc. Yes I would believe the " individuals came with full spec sport suspension, exterior trim and interior. Please correct me if I am wrong, cos anyone can post anything on the internet LOL (like me).
