Question on cooling *320d*

Morning guys
I drive a 2003 320d and have a problem with the DDE light coming on and the car going into a rough idle before cutting out.
ive just bought the car and it drives well but ive noticed that when the car is up to temp, imean the heat gauge needle is half on the guage then it acts up ,not all the time.
The question i wanted to ask is how important is the engine covers regarding the cooling of the motor as mine are missing.
could this be my problem?
thanks Neale

Welcome to the forum Neale.

As far as I know a DDE error is a fueling issue and should be looked at asap. The car should not act up at half temp, because that is where it should operate at.

The engine covers also make absolutely zero difference on how efficiently the car cools,so that wouldn't be the problem.I would have the injectors read and checked and run diagnostics on the car, because I am sure that your issue is fuel related.

Hopefully it won't be a costly repair,so I am holding thumbs for you.
If you have it at a mech in the near future, just have the vacuum lines for the turbo checked too,my e46 320d had a fair number of boost problems that were caused by cracked or weak vacuum lines, escpecially near the actuator at the top.

Enjoy the car and post a pic or two when you have the time:thumbs:
