I have a question regarding decating my E90 320D. I had a look on the forum but i'm having a few issues to discover if mine has a CAT. I have the LCI model but I have the 130KW N47D20 motor.

I also asked the guys at the exhaust place if the car has a CAT and they couldn't confirm if It had so I didn't feel comfortable with them working on the car.

The car is approaching 200k Km and I heard that decating is a must at this millage as it could damage the engine.

Could anyone assist me by telling me if it has a CAT and if it really is necessary to remove it?

I noticed the car gives a puff of smoke on acceleration and it didn't before and my google results let me to believe it could be the CAT.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Late 2009/early 2010 onwards do not have a sensor before the CAT, so when removing it it will be a removal and iping put into place with no cat fooler needed. I am assuming you are looking for this as all the cars come standard with cats from the factory. secondly to find out if the car has a cat...there is an audible whistle from the exhaust tailpiece on idle if the CAT has been removed, if not it will be a standard, low burbed tone.

Hope this helps bro!

Thats good news so there is no software needed or any fancy stuff? I could just let a place do the removal whithout worries of any reprogramming.

Could anyone refer a place in Pretoria Area that could assist with the removal of the CAT?

Dude, only when they open your car then you can confirm if it needs or not. Remember some early model cars are manufactured and registered late...good luck!
