Pushing forward with the upgrades...

Discussions today have shown that there are folks on this forum willing to assist in any manner that they can. So I'd like to extend an invitation to all for helping us find a new theme.

Yes, the overall look and feel of the forum has to change if we want to continue with maintenance and upgrades. The current theme (that a lot of people have praised this forum for) is very much outdated and cannot support the upgrades required to keep the forum running. This is unfortunate for some and fortunate for others. Nothing we can do about it.

So if you know MyBB and happen upon any themes you think may do this forum justice, pop us a link please. We will consider paid themes as well - they don't have to be entirely free.

I'm not familiar with the implementation but if we upgrade to the latest version, not sure how far behind we currently are, would we not experience issues with Tapatalk and the like?

Would it not be worth my loading the site on a dev server and test the upgrade there instead of on live?

I know it's an expense but it would be safer (IT has made me paranoid). I'm willing to donate towards or give use of one of my smaller servers.

Just looking at https://community.mybb.com/mods.php?action=browse&category=30&by=recommendations having selected "responsive" and sorted by stars, I would say there only 2 options, which then needs to be customized.

1. NetPen
2. Emerald

NetPen actually looks fantastic, so does Emerald. I would take either of those and customize it for this site. I didn't see a highly rated dark them on the above list, but I am sure it shouldn't be too much work to customize something.

For a dark theme, the Elusive theme looks like a good starting point, but NetPen has all the features...

I come for the content, the discussions, the banter with like minded and often opposing views. We may vehemently disagree on topics from time to time but we're all connected by a passion for our cars.

If these upgrades are unavoidable well then please can the Wizards of IT give me as a dinasor a step by step guide on how to reconnect once the "improvements" are completed but do so BEFORE you take the site down for the changes. :fencelook:

100% correct in theory but a massive ball ache in practice. Could use Digital Ocean and the $50 free account but it is not about the money-saving and more about the time it would take. There is a lot of work and not many hands it seems.

May I suggest two possibilities? I have not looked through the files yet but they are myBB v1.8.x


Focus - Font would need to be changed though.

Duende - I am sure the red could be altered

Can someone please let me know how to insert pics to new posts and replies in the updated forum. All I can see are attaching pictures via URL; there's no option to browse for pics within your device. If there is a thread for this, kindly direct me to it.
