Pulley Reduction Installation

Hey,

Well, i'm busying talking to Gary who's looking to sell his Alta Reduction kit and loan me the tool to install it, but due to my lack of mechanical confidence, i'm looking for someone who can help me install it or if you know of someone who can install it. I'm currently based in the West Rand, Roodepoort area.

I am just busy this weekend but if you want I can help you. With the tool it is about a 2 hour job max. So if you are willing to wait till next weekend, or want to come thru to Irene one afternoon we can quickly do it for you. I charge 2 Windhoeks.

Hey,

I just bought mine off a guy on the forums. If you go through importparts.co.za you can get one for a reasonable price. Problem is you'll more than likely have to bring in the tool too and the expected arrival time for products from Alta is around 6-8 weeks cause their customer service is apparently appalling. The price through ImportParts is around R2700 or R2800 depending on the Rand Dollar situation at the time.

and do you have to do software?

i phoned bmw for the jcw 11% reduction pulley, they said about R1500 complete, is it worth it?

also my bypass valve was worn so i blocked it off so it stays closed so it can boost, is there any down side to this?

Only downside is your fuel consumption will be higher with the closed off valve.

I've got a modified valve from USA that closes completely to achieve max boost, it's for sale if you interested.

another thing you can do depending on what version of the eaton M45 charger you have is to block off the two holes next to the V on the outlet of the charger... ive seen it done with a steel plate...

the holes are there to make the charger quieter... blanking them give slightly more boost and efficiency...

With a 11% pulley and even to 19% pulley you do not need a software upgrade, as the cars are mapped from the factory for up to 1.3 bar I think (might be wrong).

Obviously at the end of the day tuning will be better, but I have run a 17% pulley for the last 2 years with no problems.

all and all, from stock bolt on 17% pulley with colder plugs and stock tune, my car gave about 10 kw more across the rev range but it topped off earlier giving only about 5kw more max power. Toruqe on the other hand saw a gain of about 30 NM at mid range and 20 nm gain max.

6 hours, blood, sweat, lots of tools and, eventually, tears and we ended defeated.

Wian and I stuck at it till 12:00 in the AM. We were eventually defeated by not only the crank but the pulley too.

So the challenge is set. Anyone want to try and best us? Please!

Ended up breaking the tools I made for the job, bending and in fact destroing my puller and nothing.
