Hi guys, never thought I'll be part of BMW family.

I recently got myself a used |2014 X1 Sdrive 20i Xline Auto.

It's a lovely car for a small family, and drive nicely.

Just a few questions in regards, to BMW and the car.

Firstly, I was told you need to pay to get Motorplan transfered to your name? (It was a private buy) Do one know the procedure of doing it? From what I know is, since it's a private sale, and I got it for a really good price, I'll have to pay for name transfer, roadworthy test and a motorplan transfer fee as well??

Secondly, the tires are Pirelli P7 225/45/18, does anyone know what good run flat should I replace it with that's, quieter? And more economically? And cheaper.

Thirdly, anyone experienced the squeal sound from the doors? Sounded like rubber seal rubbing against the door?

Beside these, so far I'm enjoying the car every much, has all the needed addons,

Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions.

Regards,
Key

Welcome :bravo: , Car looks good.

I am also interested to know how the transferring of the motorplan works out.

BMW needs to do inspection before transferring motorplan, should have that before signing the dotted though. If BMW finds issues, they will not transfer until resolved by ARC.

Run flats are generally noisier and more expensive. When I purchased mine, the research I did showed that Goodyear was cheaper

The squeak you refer to, is that at the point of closing or when swinging open.

Wow, never realised how beautiful the X1 is. Congrats man.

As for the squeal from the doors, its a common problem in these new BMW's (if youre referring to the squeaking while driving. It is to do with the contact of the seal against the door. Typically its a sign of it being a bit dirty, like dust on it. Otherwise if that doesnt work, I know you get some sort of chemical for rubber or something that you can wipe on that will help.
My F30 does the same, and its typically a sign for me that its time to clean my car.

I got the car transferred to my name, yay! Then i went to SMG Cape Town, the service lady said I need to first make a booking for a quality check from BMW to see if there's any problems with it and whether they need to fix anything under motorplan, but from what I suspect is they want to check if the car was worked on etc. If not then things should go smoothly, but they did say they will need BMW to give the green flag in order to transfer the motor plan into my name.

And apparently the cost involved to for the quality check and not really for the transfer of motorplan. R1300!!!

Welcome Key.

Congrats on yr new ride!
Love the kit and wheels:bravo:

R1300 is not too bad I guess for assessment and transfer. May as well get costing on mplan extension too.
Agreed... runflats r noisier. Goodyear is usually better priced unless Continental is on special at the time u need.
BMW Pinetown used to use ordinary silicone spray on my F30 door rubbers. I use same on my X1.

Happy motoring:=):

The squeal sound is from driving, especially when driving over bumpy roads or driving onto drive way, speed bumps etc. It's quite irritating.

Yeah, called tyre places and so far Goodyear is cheaper, but how is the performance in wet and dry though?

And I bought the car from a friend so I know how they drive, and know they haven't had any accident. And only been through one service so far

Thanks! Does the spray really work? My cousin's M135i also has this squeal sound and apparently BMW know about it, but need to go through many procedures to claim it from BMW, to replace the rubber seal on doors

Zambezi Auto BMW seems to be the only BMW dealership that actually offers a solution to the squeeking sound that will last. :dunnoanymore:

I took my E90 to another dealership (terrible one) and they put some silicone spray on (charging me something like R395 for it as well). This obviously didn’t last.

Zambezi Auto applies a 3M tape and this works like a charm. Both my parents have had their cars done by them and the squeeking has been gone ever since.

That's great news, congrats man.
The process isn't that bad then and the amount.

I’ll see if I can take a pic tonight. It’s a clear tape though, so can’t see much.

Maybe phone Zambezi Auto and try find out what the name of the tape is. Then shop around for it

I hope it wasn't the foam weather strip that they applied. This issue would occur if the original rubber has deformed sufficiently, either entirely or at a specific point where it allows air to get through. My 24year old car suffers from this, but I would not expect it from a newer car, but as with so many other things, quality has been significantly reduced over the years.

I want to take some steps to remove and revive the rubber to see if it helps.
