320d has a heavier motor so BMW compromised and raised it a bit higher.
In fact on all Diesel models in BMW that is the case.

E90 does not have these issues as the E46 did. There is no flap etc. The newer versions of the Diesel now use a common fuel injector rail meaning reducing the risk of faulty injectors etc.
Same oil used in Petrol versions is used in Diesel applications as well so no special oil.
In terms of maintenance on a Diesel YES it is a bit more pricey as compared to Petrol but one scores on the consumption side.
