320d has a heavier motor so BMW compromised and raised it a bit higher.

In fact on all Diesel models in BMW that is the case.

Maintenance on diesels is quite pricey, special oil for the motor, then there is the turbo which goes, injectors and so forth.

E90 does not have these issues as the E46 did. There is no flap etc. The newer versions of the Diesel now use a common fuel injector rail meaning reducing the risk of faulty injectors etc.

Same oil used in Petrol versions is used in Diesel applications as well so no special oil.

In terms of maintenance on a Diesel YES it is a bit more pricey as compared to Petrol but one scores on the consumption side.

also depends on the tyres, your car has bridgestones, and if the other has michelins then it does sit higher, we have done the comparsion with two identcal cars, the one with the brdgestones just sits lower and looks even better, also bmw changed the suppension last oct s it has a sofetr ride, so that also plays a part in height

I've owned my E90 330d (160kW version) manual for 7 months now. It's the best car I've ever owned; not even my ex 2009 8P S3 was this fulfilling. I might be letting it go soon for a 335i Convertible but I'm certain I'll miss it. If I have to buy another sedan in the future because of family I will buy another 330d.
