the uni can be replaced with little effort, the welding is also bloody strong and i doubt you will ever brake it off...

i have had load of propshafts rebuilt and have not had any issues... even after fitting all sort of funny motors into cars that didnt come out with them.

Really? Where did you get the props welded and balanced if I may ask? I just want my car back!!!:argh:

So anyone know any good reputable propshaft places around CT? Or any which i should stay away from? Someone on here surely must have done something like this before?

I have my reservations about Tri-Torq. When I enquired about a propshaft issue they described the process: turns out they wanted to only loosen the exhausts at the back whilst leaving them connected at the front and simply let them hang there, ie. putting strain on the branches whilst they were mucking around with the propshaft (which sits above the exhausts). Now this might be perfectly fine, but I wasn't happy with that idea at all! :nono:

Another option you might want to try: Colin Maggs @ Propshaft Engineering, cnr 2nd Avenue & 23rd Street, Elsies River, 021-5922241.

Shop around and make sure you understand the work they're going to do / process they're going to follow before you commit.

Thanks for the information! Yes the first workshop I went too also only dropped my exhaust at the back as you described and I also did not like it that much. I guess if they use a lift at the back just to keep the exhaust from hanging freely it should be fine.

I'll contact Colin and hear what he says as well! Thanks again!

Any update?

Hi sorry the car has been standing for a while in the garage! I have decided to take off the prop and try and find a second hand one, the ones I went to look at were in much worse condition than mine so I opted to get the U-joint replaced at Tri-torq. I'm going to pick up the repaired prop now but now I'm not sure if I should replace my guibo too.

Heres some pics of it: Album

So looking at those pics of it, would anyone suggest I replace it? those cracks in the rubber are mostly only on the surface as I can see and there are no tears or anything, it just looks a bit worn.

That guibo isn't as bad as they can get, but well worth replacing "while you're there". When new they are very rigid and the crazing on the surface indicates that there is already a significant amount of flexing going on. I'd replace it.

Awesome thanks for the advice!

So apparently the rear U-joint is serviceable, and hence that was done which only cost me R800.

You removed the prop yourself? How difficult was it? Did the car have to be very high?

Yes I did it all by myself, its actually pretty easy if u take the exhaust off first, which is also pretty easy. The car was just jacked up on the one side for me to slide under, its a bit cramped but if ur skinny like me its not too bad. I have done a diff swop before, which was much harder to do and required help from friends :=):
