Problem?

Hi, i am currently experiencing the following problem on my 1997 316i: While driving sometimes, the car while pressing the accellerator does'nt accellerate and as soon as i clutch in the car switches off. It starts immediately after the car is topped. i went to two mechanics and they both say that i need to change sensors one by one to see what the actual problem is. Does anyone know if this is the correct thing to do? Thanks in advance....

Thanks for the response. Mech says dianostics will only pick-up the problem if you do a diagnostic at the time it's hapening. Is this true and can you recommend someone in JHB?

Nope the diagnostics should pick up any faulty sensors.

All bosch service centres have diagnostics equipment. Or give Savspeed or Tune Tech a call for a qoute depending which is closer to you.

It will definatley be cheaper than replacing sensors blindly.

If you were closer to Pretoria I could try and get someone at Leo Haese to help you. :thumb:
Otherwise, contact a dealer in your area, and ask them what they will charge you to check the codes.

Come visit me in Randburg one evening,

Have not done many E36's so would be keen to see if I can get my OBDI diag working on something other then the E34.

Thanks for all the responses and offers guys. Bosch Service centre wants to charge R400 and claim that they definately will pick up the fault. Must i take it to them?

Take Zaleonardz up on his generous offer first and see what you guys pic up. If you come up with nothing then go the other route. R400 doesnt sound too bad.
