problem with warning light for right rear light

hi guys

another problem with my e46 - warning light on the dash showing a problem with the right rear lights - it stays on all the time - day and night -however all the lights are working - what could be the problem ?

on my E39 530d the right rear warning light is also connected to the rear window brake light, thats where I would look

There's a rubber tube on the right with wires in running into the bootlid. One of those wires are broken/shorting. I had the same problem.

@ Sunil, on my wifes e46 the earth on the right was not good. Replace it with a good solid earth and all was OK.

Check the earth lug on the harness. They also have a tendancy of melting the plastic and shorting out. If that is the case, use some hot glue to prevent the short circuit.

This happened to me on my E46 and on my mom's.

Oh, and if you don't detect this quick enough, it actually burns the male pin on the tail light cluster... no jokes!
