So driving home from work in christmas eve my car decided to give me a little something... A light on the dash, now i have no idea what it means but it only comes on when i corner sharply or brake hard.

Nothing shows up on the OBC, so could it just be loose connection or is it a legit error?

Here's a pic of the light...

Check your brake fluid level . If it is low you may have to replace worn brake pads as the pistons have moved the distance that the pads have worn ,thats why the fluid drops . You may have a leak , check under car in the morning .

That the brake pad sensors. Your brake pads could be to thin according to the sensor, but it's no problem.

For some or other reason, once that light goes on, you can't turn it off. Lol

The one on the left is the brake pad wear sensor indicator, the one circled is the brake fluid sensor. The one on the right is the handbrake light.

From the E36 owners handbook:
BRAKE HYDRAULICS LIGHT. Goes out when the engine is started. If it comes on during a journey, the brake fluid level is too low.

just for interest sake....if the brake wear sensor comes on, it means the pads are approx 90% worn, the sensor which is normally located front left and rear right, is closed circuit until it is worn away to "open circuit".

to get the light to go out (annoyance factor) simply bridge out the wires of the sensor (closed circuit)....but don't forget to change the pads soon....and replace the sensor....soon

like the others have said you have low brake fluid its probably not too low because it is not staying on all the time... i would top it up and try find if there is a leak...

if you cant find a leak i would just watch the level and keep a lookout for drops on the garage floor where it drips could help you find the leak :)

Thanks guys! It hasn't come on again... and I don't see anything on the garage floor but I'll head to the stealers and pick some up. Is there any specific type or is brake fluid, brake fluid?
