POwersteering topup

Hi can anyone tell me what to use if I want to top up my p/s fluid?Atf?Are there different grades or are they all the same?The reason Im asking is cause sometimes I get a funny sound when I drive and turn,only after car been standing for a while. So my guess is that the fluid drops and also causes a drop in pressure,but after 3,4 km all quiet.Hope its not the pump. Are there repair kits for them?:bangdesk::bangdesk:

You will be able to check your fluid level. Not sure what car you have but my e39's book say atf dextron III but it seem not so easily available

im guessing you have an e46, the power steering pump is known to give problems. i had the same problem on mine, had to change the pump.

Its a e46 330 step.I hope I dont need to change the pump.Is it an easy DIY job,changing the pump. What do they go for (non-dealer)?Im in CT.

Goldwagen sells PS pumps for the e46 for R1600, not sure about the steptronic, might have the oil cooler in the way, but on the manual from what I have seen it seems simple enough DIY.
