did a personal loan recently for something similar, interest is a kick in the balls though.
either borrow more or have some money cause the E46 will need some preventative maintenance done if you do decide to take it...the E46's are getting on in years and need a bit of money when you get them.
send a link for the ad - if it is on the net?
post the pics so we can scrutinise her...?
"Preventative maintenance" such as? What would i be looking at? Even on a Diesel with under 200k and full service history?
From personal experience, the E46s need a lot of their preventative maintenance around the 150-180k km mark to see it through to the 200 000's km mileage. But then again the car will drive great until around probably 250k where you might need to do it again, although none of my cars are there yet.
There are quite a few posts on the forums where guys list what they have done on their vehicles.
#1 is cooling system on the petrol variants, I am not 100% sure about the diesel version, but I am sure they could be similar.
#2 is some suspension bits, mostly the rubber parts or parts with rubber that go through wear and tear
There are more. Mostly the egines are rock solid, its the components around the engine.
Okay, thanks mate. Any advice on the finance part?
Wesbank will finance privately bought vehicles, even at the age of E46s. Your interest rate wont be the best, but they will do it. I think expect 16-18%. ps. Thats higher than some credit cards!
I used Wesbank by going via FNB in the past. Take whatever deal they will go for, but say _no_ to any extras, which is life insurrance, 3rd party motorite warranty (they pay out very little on very old vehicles, its better to put that money into a oh-crap fund). Basically anything extra will just cost you money.
Wesbank's only requirement is, the amount you loan is a minimum of R50k on privately bought vehicles.
As the others here have said though, be prepared for a shock of an interest rate. I have only done this once in my life, so the last vehicle I bought cash.
