Hi Guys

So story is little old lady who is a client has a Manual BMW 528i which was her husbands from new. Husband past a number of years ago and car has been sitting in the garage. Car is immaculate in side and engine wise with about 200K. Sadly little old lady has been using it now and again and has applied a number of small bumps and scratches to the exterior getting in and out of the garage. So should I buy and respray or liquid dip would it be worth going to the expense of buying and then respraying to get it back to immaculate. Comments appreciated. Any referrals to someone who does exceptional work in obtaining a excellent external finish would be appreciated.

It's difficult to make an assessment and advise with the relatively vague information supplied.

My suggestion is go and view the car, take tons of photos and post them so that we can see. Also post all other details, service history etc, and especially the price.

At R25k, I would say, buy it, even though, from what other members say, that the 528 was the "dog" of the E39, at R25k, it is still a massive bargain, provided no major mechanical expenses.

Hell with my old "granny" driving style, I would even have been tempted, thats a whole lot of car for so little a price.

528s are lovely. Plenty of go, comfortable, avoids the M-Pack-Tax. But if it's been sitting, it will need attention. And don't vandalize it by plastidipping it or something silly like that.

Yeah don't plastidip it. Treat her right. When it comes to 528's, chat to Flash-Gordon on the forum. He had a mint one and I'm sure he'll have lots of good advice for you when it comes to what to look out for...

Yeah Gordon's prefacelift 528i had, I think, 437k km on it when it was killed by collision with a taxi, and had no major engine work done to it ever. It was simply superbly looked after, and is exactly how any old BMW should be looked after.

My point is that if it was properly maintained and serviced, then get it, and continue to maintain it as best you can.

For 25k, add another 20k paint job to it and you have a reliable daily built with supreme quality and proper comfort.
