If you can smell the fuel, maybe the fuel injection is in a tizzy after hibernating for so long and flooding the engine. Happened to my 325i when it was started, pulled in and out of the garage and left for a day.

Pull out a plug and see if it is covered in unburnt fuel. In that case you can put in a new set and resume cranking until she starts. If you are not in a hurry the plugs will dry out if you take them out for a few days I guess. In my case it took quie a lot of cranking before that happened. Perhaps there is a better procedure.

In cubby remove fuse #54(fuel pump fuse) swing and see if it fires up, if it does wait till engine dies re insert fuse and swing again, would be a flooding issue, probably time for a new set of plugs if this is the case, if not check the fuel lines

if a plug is out and you swing the car, you may start a small fire.... be careful...

rather leave the plugs out, over night or so and you should be ok... check the condition of the plugs as well...

how long has the car been standing ? how was the condition of the battery when starting ?

there are a few small things to consider as well...

sum other guy said i must flash the car dont know what that is

the car been standing for a year did put in a new battery

Flash is to do with coding don't attempt if you're not sure as any wrong doing could brick an electronic component(dme etc) at a very costly price to repair/replace...

You say the car has been standing for a year and was there any problems with it before it was parked. I had an E36 that had been standing for a year and a half due to an accident and when I put in a charged up battery it started without any problems. If the engine is swinging strong most likely it is your fuel pump or a blockage in the fuel line. Unfortunately I cannot come help you due to working abroad. I am sure some kind hearted fanatic will be able to help you.

ohk,wu can i ask in cape town to have a look at the car

Before you set things on fire or attempt to "flash" anything, consider having the car towed to a reputable workshop for proper diagnosis on what the problem is. Right now all you have is speculation, and without having the car inspected and diagnosed with the right tools you may as well use an 8ball to fix it

Take intake box off, with throttle bodies nicely exposed...take piese of cloth, dip into fresh 95 unleaded, let her sniff whilst turning her over and see what she does...if she starts and dies...well you know where the preoblem is:=):

Are you sure you hear the fuel pump priming when you put the ignition on?

Remove the back seat - it's quite simple. Fuel pump is under the back seat behind the driver. You should hear the pump prime ...if not you have a dodgy fuel pump.

Try that 1st & then go with what the other guys suggested.
