Hi, spoke to Eddie today. He says you must bring in the car so that he can check it on his computer. Asked him about the oil level procedure and he said the car must be stone cold when you check it. (i had read and heard that the car must be at a certain temp when you check the gearbox oil level). If it was my car i would have taken it to ZF for a gearbox service, but it is just my 2c. Regards

I know Eddie yes, if my wife go to Hermanus again I'll send her to him, just to check.
Thanks for the advice. I'd love to take it to ZF, but the time is a problem for me.

Okay, so my gearbox is 100% after the 'software upgrade' the agents did to my car. They said the previous owner probably drove the car lazy for 84 000km, so that's why the gearbox adapt to his 'lazy' driving style.

Now I'm in love with my car al over again :)

Reading the thread and I thought this sounds like another tractor gearbox tragedy...good that it was sorted with the right people. I remember my 540 E39 made a noise on take off and guys at BMW actually diagnosed a suspension problem, shocks and other silly stuff...quoted something like R20k for repairs

Took it to ZF and they found the problem was the centre bearing R2k with labour lol

Hope you enjoy the car, more than 25 BMW's later and I still haven't entered the dark side, perhaps the time is now.
