Please help end my N46 Torture

Howzit fellow Fanatics,

I'll keep this short and sweet.

I've had my 320i E90 since Jan. In that time. I've done the Exhaust (Decat, mini cat foolers), All Gaskets, seals, changed oil to Toptech 4100 5w40, Major Service, Gearbox Service @ ZF, and Valve stem seals and added a Piggyback Unichip.

Now that she's not blowing smoke after idle, my joy was restored. But after a month of having her back I've noticed another wierd issue......when doing a cold start she's perfect, but when you start her again after she's warmed up from either a short "Spirited" drive or a long cruise, she bellows out a large cloud of white smoke and then if you rev her - no smoke.

And she is consuming oil ....after 1000km I needed to add 500ML

Could be your valve stem seals.

Just had them done on my car (e46 N46B20) now and no more smoke.

if i remember correctly, white smoke is steam.. blue/grey is oil... BUT if you smell the smoke, is it oil?

not sure if the E90 has a CCV (oil seperater valve).. but on the E46 this happens when that valve gets KO'd

I've spoken to Paulo @ Supertek and organised a visit for next week.

From what I've read, it's either the CCV or a valve that's not 100% and the oil is seeping into the cylinder cavity.... I can also see its oil, as my exhaust tips have a black soat coating from just two weeks of drive from clean

Update Gents.

Will be replacing my CCV tomorrow sometime.

But will I wait for the parts to arrive from Midrand to Clearwater BMW, I'll be taking the wheels off,doing a brake fluid flush, sanding down the disc rotors and sandblasting the calipers....and then the fun part, Upgrading the brake guide bushings, Thanx to Axis engineering and then giving the calipers a proper coating of VHT flameproof Gold flake and satin clear coats.

Will post pics once all has been completed

Update:

Before heading off to Paulo for his advice on the smoking issues at warm start-up. I decided to replace the CCV and all related hoses just to further pin point the problem and solution.....and lookie what I discovered:


















Intake Manifold full of oil, Pipe from CCV to Sump was completely blocked...almost like there was dirt, but more like carbon and oil combined?!

Anyways, hopefully tomorrow I can go ahead and start replacing, cleaning and putting everything back together....oh and my eccentric shaft sensor has oil by the pins and the one clip that holds the plug is broken off (before me owning her) ...But strange enough I haven't had any errors or physical issues.

Would any one know what the part number is for the Yellow O-Ring on the eccentric shaft sensor plug and any suggestions how i can reinforce the sealing of that plug without having to replace the entire sensor, valve gaskets, etc?
