Mybe not such a good idea

why not? want to use it to coat a small damaged area just above the volume button on steering wheel

It will work fine on the steering wheel insert, not the round wheel itself. I've done it. Don't think it will last forever though, my dad's heavy hands have worn some of it off on the 330d already. Around the cruise control. It lasted a couple of months though perfectly :rollsmile:
