PlastiDip Rims

Hi guys,
I'm wondering how many cans of plastidip would be needed to paint all 4 rims... does anyone know?:fencelook:
I'm going to buy plastidip this weekend (if i find any in stock) to paint the rims but im not sure how many cans to buy...:bangdesk:

I dont know much about painting but i wanted to do it myself over this weekend.:fencelook:

two cans per wheel sounds like alot... from the experiments i have done dont think it will be hard to get off the wheel as long as it is sprayed thick enough...

only problem i have with using this instead of normal paint on wheels is that you will probably have to redo the wheels when you change tires but then a nice fresh spray will also look good...

I used normal matt black paint on my wheels and i still have to touch them up every time the tire guys have a go at them...

Not too sure. I know there are places that quote from R499 per rim for respray. Depends on the colour and style and so forth.

A friend did it. Haven't done it personally. He did 4 coats per rim and used 7 of the 8 cans he bought on 16'' rims

I would spray paint them myself if i knew what prep had to be done etc...
8 cans of plastidip could cost about 1k to 1.2k ...
the thing is, to plastidip the rims, you just have to clean them and you're ready to paint...
i hated when i want something so bad and dont know how or where to do it Quick and cheap...

There was a guy from auto dip designs at kyalami on sat, he quoted me R1200 to plastidip 4x 18" rims and he would come to me to do it. Uses a spray gun rather than cans.

Maybe do one as an experiment to see how much you need before buying it all in one go...

Plastidip is fine, we did it on my car and on a C62, we used 2.5 cans for all 4 rims with each wheel getting 2 coats.

it was very simple to take it off the C63 as well. Pics.

I would just use a full can per wheel that way you know it will come off without tearing if left on for a while...

63 plastidip came off without an issue at all, maybe because we didnt do a million coats, with 2 coats i havent had any issues either, been like 2 months now with it and havent had to touch it up :thumbs:

issues come it if you com back a year later and wnat to take it off the rubber is more brittle... with more coats it wont tear as easily... not saying its too thin on your wheels but you may run into problems if you leave it on longer and try get it off

3 cans should work , maybe get a 4th in case. I have had plastidip on my rims now since feb, i just redid them 2 weeks ago as wanted a more gloss finish and less matte finish, I also added some silver metalizer to get a gunetal sort of finish. I didnt peel off the plastidip, I just cleaned the rims and sprayed over the old plastidip. Be consistent, dont spray the first layer too think, start around 15-20cm away from the rim on the fir coat and then move in about 3-5cm closer for the remaining coats,and wait around 7-10 min between sprays. Be careful not to spray to think because it will run.... Normally 4-5 coats will be sufficient but this is also subject to how think you spray it on. So go with the flow. If you want a gloss finish get one can of the glossifier. I find with the glossifier you need to spray closer than the black and slightly thinker to get the correct finish. I suggest you practice the gloss on something.

:thumbs: good to know, thanks bru, dont think i will have it on for too long. I just didnt want to paint an orginal M wheel, didnt seem like something i would ever do. :thumbs:

Prep? A 6 pack of Amstel, a bucket and a rag. :roflol: o and a dry cloth

for prep you just need to make sure the wheels are clean and grease free

I used 2 cans of Plasti-dip for all 4 mags. I don't like the matte look so I also got a can of glossifier and now I'm loving the gloss finish on them.

I got the products from Executer :thumbs:
