So, I sent the car back in last week to get the Ball Joints unseized and the wheel alignment done.
Car behaved a little better, no major movement under braking etc.
Sent the car in for a full 4 wheel laser alignment just to be sure all was perfect. Found this not to be the case. Apparently the previous garage had cut one of the retaining collars that secure the ball joint to the tie rod, so the wheel alignment couldn't be changed. So a quick drive for a replacement part and booked the car in for the next day. All was good so I thought... :nonono:
Driving out in the country start hearing a knocking noise... At low speed it almost sounds like a wheel is coming off! Had my toolbox with me checked a couple of bolts. to my horror one of the bolts into the Lower control Arm Bush was turning freely! So they had clearly stripped the thread inside the body! (This subsequently appears not to be the knocking noise heard)
So returned the car today, quietly and factually told them everything that was wrong. They had a look and are going to rectify it tomorrow. They do not know alot about E46's (clearly) but with the advice of Peter I think we have a way forward. :=):
Not going to be to optimistic, but have a plan.
