Plan of Action on my 335 for the next few months

So after my fourth time at the track I have managed to do a indicated [email protected] with half decent track conditions including a strong head wind. My previous best was a 13.0@180 on the same setup on a Tarlton unprepared track. I know that the car is good for a 12.5@181 as is but I am itching for more.
My next move has been swopping my 3.85 ratio diff for a 3.15. (thanks Sherwin). The 3.85 rendered my first and second gear pretty useless with me having to lift of the throttle in both gears for traction. I have not lowered my tire pressure on the MT Drag radials below 2bar yet as I like keeping things constant to see my improvements. All runs are done with half tank too. I am sure the 3.15 will yield better results. I had a gap to test on Sunday but bloody blew a intercooler boost pipe of on the turbo side.
I will most probably run with this identical trim at ODI next which will not really show the true improvement as the track is much lower than Tarlton. This benefits the small turbos quite a bit due to the higher oxygen density. Apparently there is also a lower drop off of power at higher rpms.
I will then run the same set up at Tarlton Sport compact end of August to get a real indication of the diffs improvement. My feeling is that I will be able to run a sub 12.5 second run at around 184 or so. The only change here is that Chiplogic will write me a high octane specific file with far more timing that I am currently running. Experiments have shown a extra 10wkw. This file will also simulate the use of methanol if I decide to add it at a later stage. The car is my wifes daily driver so that is the last option on the cards at this stage.
The next step will be fitment of bigger turbos. I have finally decided on purchasing a set from Rob Beck. I am not sure what to expect from them as tests at sea level are very different from altitude but at this stage they have achieved 360wkw at sea level using high octane fuel.
I will then try see what they do at the reef and the coast and hopefully maintain having the fastest 335 in the country as I am sure quite a few people have similar mods planned.
Finally I will sell the well sorted car to get into a F10 M5 late next year, so whoever is interested start saving your pennies hehe.

Look forward to hear your experience with this...OB will pull out all the stops as usual:thumbsup:

I saw your name on the RB list...this is going to be amazing:thumbsup:

will the jump to the 3.15 not be too long? you will have more load in 1st gear so you will boost harder in lower gears!
but the inbetween of stalling underboost or having a smoke show will be a mision!

Also with the 3.15 diff you will finnish the 1/4mile in 3rd gear! im not stating facts just wondering on this.. but wouldnt a 3.46 diff be more practical to keep low revs more usable and finnish in 4th on the 1/4 mile?

have you measured your boost in 1st and 2nd?

congrats again on the 12.7 that is crazy! the 13.0 with higher speeds make sence coz good traction = fast time low speed, bad traction = slower time more speed!

The gearing seems to be ok. Slightly long but fine. The cars response to throttle input is instant as there is zero lag so there is no on/off boost issue.
The exit even with the longer diff will be in fourth at around 180+ as with the small turbos you can only rev to 6200 as the power falls off badly after that.
The boost is restricted for traction purposes in 1st and 2nd. I can get max boost in those gears if wanted but its a fruitless exercise.
The exit speed on the 12.7 is low as I was off the throttle too often in the first two gears so the good traction fast time low speed does not really apply. There was a major headwind as well so my rate of acceleration in third and fourth is lower than what the car normally pulls.

ok didnt know where your shifting revs were! its a mod worth trying! nothing to loose and wih longer gearing your trap speed will go up aswell also you 1km speed will improve allot!

Your wife has a 12 second daily drive lol

I have been trying to get her out of that car for the past year. You should of seen the dealers face when she told him the Jeep SRT8 was slow.

Thanks man. I was pretty disappointed with the dyno operator yesterday. It seems like he floored the car as it reach red line. At 4500rpm its 120kw down, at 5000rpm its 100kw where it should have peaked and it only peaked at 6000 which is where it normally it has started to drop off. This actually cemented my opinion of not using other dynos.

Next time to the track will be at ODI this Sunday and end of the month at Tarlton at the Sport Compact. ODI I will run full trim with 2 bar tire pressure and half tank as I normally do and at Sport Compact I will pull out all the stops and see what I can achieve with the stock turbos.

ah ok, yea, it was a bummer, he also did not rev M3nace's car properly, he only revved it to 6000, supposed to goto 8000. but oh well, the day was fun ..

Cool ! I would like to come to those events, I will let you know if I do. will be interesting to finally see what my E39 does on the 1/4 mile ! :D .. its all about the fun of it for me, so its not so serious yet about my times, but when I turbo ... will definitely start competing abit :)

neways, keep well.
