Places to learn to drift in Cape Town?

Now that winter is approaching and the rainy season is on its way, it got me thinking about the reduction in traction that comes with it.

I've got an E46 320i steptronic and I have always wanted to learn to drift my rear wheel drive car however, due to the fact that:

I was not keen on shreading my tires, didn't even know where would be a safe place to go try it out, and what other factors I need to consider, I have been putting it off.

However, now that I have joined this forum I think it would be wise to reconsider if given the adequate advice.

I'm sure these questions appeal to many many individuals who want to increase their driving ability.

So if you can help that would be great.

Thanks

Go to racing track. They usually have skippads!

Track days are normally the safest to start out drifting. Depending on when you go you can have as little as 4 cars in a group - so no one is around you for most of the track and you can go nuts.

Otherwise there's always the learners area next to the N7, just off the Koerburg refinery by Table View. If it's empty - use it

You can also learn how to drift quickly if you slide through intersections on full opposite lock. You'll have to do it right in fear of others laughing at you. Good luck dude, it's tricky!

hahaha! Coincidentally I actually have done that.
There was an accident hours before and they didn't clean up the spillage properly.
However, I must admit it was 100% luck how I caught that slide.
Was scarily fun though...

Thanks for the advice though.

Watch the N7 parking... rumours of cops driving along the N7 and calling in to block the road when you come out... one entrance in and one entrance out, and these days the parking is clearly visable from the n7.

Although in really rubbish weather... it is very tempting...

I have never gone there myself round 7pm in the rain midweek and tried this... because its normally quite empty.... :fencelook:

rather do it in a very big parking lot if you try learning on the track you will probably go off a few times and may damage something... get a feel 1st then go to the track to get better :)

Wait until there is snow on top of the mountains.... then go to Ceres or Montague and start slowly!

Not much efforts or speeds needed to start

Perhaps also try the parking lot outside Time Cafe in Canal Walk on Thursday evening ... there will be a few guys to support you :fencelook:

I was there on Sunday, in the pouring rain, at the Learners parking area. Couldn't play cos Learners were there..... So I went to play in the parking opp SMG

The road you talking about where the cops block the 2 entrances, is further down in Montague. Its in Link road. I used to race there years ago.
