btw, is the thermostat really that expensive?

Thermostat - 115 313 182 74 - R431

that was from SMG. granted for the e46 M3, but still

The e46 M3 thermostat is completely different from the rest of the e46 range, if I remember correctly. The M3 thermostat and housing is separated. The rest of the e46 range has the thermostat and housing as one part.
e46 330i Thermostat housing with thermostat 11531437040

e46 M3 04 Thermostat housing 11537831103
Thermostat 11531318274

where from, you in Cape Town

came across something interesting last night, dont know why it took me so long to do it:nonono:

anyways went to go check what thermostat i currently have installed on my car and i noticed i have a guess what Wahler with a nice clear BMW logo/emblem on it:flyfun::nonono::thumbdo:

Now this confuses the hell out of me, reason being
Is Wahler not an aftermarket/pirate part why does it have a BMW logo on it?
Who makes the orignal BMW thermostat then?
Could this still be the OEM thermostat i have in there?

If i am going to get a Wahler thermostats from the stealers then why on earth must a pay an extra R400 if Goldwagen can give me the exact same thing, i mean really i must just throw the R400 away just cause it came from the stealers and has a clear BMW logo on it - NO Flippin ways i aint that silly.:yuck::thumbdo:

and again this is the reason why im looking so deep into it, not just only for myself but for others to learn and benefit from.

Dude, just by the wahler pump from GW.

And i think you misunderstand the term pirate part.
A pirate part is usually a poorly made copy of an OEM part. and usually, very cheap. They do not last long

and aftermarket part is usually made by a reputable company, or even the OEM manufacturer, and is suitable to function as a replacement.

yippy i went shopping today:thumbs::joy:

Dropped in at SMG this afternoon, went to pick up a thermostat as well as 2ltrs of BMW Coolant:thumbs: (excited much:rollsmile:) decided to opt for the agents one trusting it would be more superior.

So need to get the ball rolling to have it fitted now hopefully only get around to do this next week and Saturday.

Guess what the agents thermostat is a BEHR, called everywhere and every place i could think of and no one had a BEHR one. Oh well im happy i got a BEHR one lets hope it lasts without any issues:thumbs:

The quality feels and seems quite descent and the plastic housing actually feels like a aluminum one (confused)

Only thing im disappointed about is that the thermostat only opens at 97° C i feel that is quite high and wish it was a tad bit lower, oh well.

Next is the expansion tank:cry:

By the way anyone know where i can get water wetter please?

Cheers!

do bear in mind that a lot of "pirate parts" are made by the exact same companies that supply oem to start with.. often they supply oem and aftermarket in parallel..
i have even bought "pirate parts" where the oem badge has been ground off..
not always the truth, but sometimes..
