Pipes on E90 335i

hi fanatics
I've noticed that my right exhaust pipe burns darker and breaths more than the left side. Is it something that I need to be concerned about or is that normal.

Exhaust flap? It probably closes the left side at low speeds and low throttle inputs. The 330i for example has an exhaust flap on the right pipe, so the left is always the dirtier of the two...

Exhaust flap sits on left side. Its closed most of the time so the colour differs. On the E90 it is easy just slide under the car and you will find a vacuum pipe to the flap. A golf tee works nice so pull the vacuum pipe off and block the pipe with the tee.Push the pipe under cover and you cannot see anything. The colour will now be the same and the sound much nicer.

On the F30 BMW got clever again and made the flap electronic. :thumbdo:

the e90 is electronic as well
you can keep it open via the jb electronically

With the 330i, the exhaust flap is open when the car is stationary, but the moment you pull off (around 20 km/h) it closes and then only opens again at higher speeds and load. You can block the vacuum pipe to disable it, or you can simply unplug it (situated behind the tail light on the left), but it will store error codes... I tested this on mine last year and although the extra noise was nice at first, it did get a bit annoying after awhile, so just plugged it back in again.

Totally normal. What's concerning is my wife's pipes are very close in colour, which means u either stuck in traffic the whole day or you under utilizing the accelerator pedal :roflol:
