PILL - My E36 ///M3 journey

I spent the better part of this weekend going through the wiring on the sound system and was appalled at what I found. This just re-affirmed my belief that the business men in Durban are a pathetic bunch of crooks.
The sound system was originally done by a guy called Kessie that operated from the Phoenix Industrial Park area and operated as Audi Godz. He has since closed down - I am in no doubt as to why. The wiring used was a joke with splicing and joining at random points by simply twisting wires together and insulated them.
Anyways I started with the JVC DVD head unit and ran new power, ground and remote wires. I used round push in lugs / connectors on the deck ends to allow for simple removal in future. On the other ends I used round lugs that could be easily secured to mounting points. All lugs were crimped and insulated. I neatened up and cable tied wiring so that it looked neat. I plan on making up some labels for the wiring and will put that on soon.
I also removed the RCA cables that he used due to him splicing the one set to create a 2 into 4 RCA for the front splits and rear co-axials to play of the Head Unit front RCA output channels. I bought a ready made 2 into RCA set and had a new RCA cable for the subwoofers from the wiring kit I bought. During this process, I discovered that one of my RF Power co-axials and one MB Quartz tweeter from the rear parcel shelf is missing :smashScreen:. This could only be from one the 2 service providers (Veez Auto and Burlington Panel Beaters) that the car was last at and I hope that the low life scum bag who stole it has a 1000 years of horror in his life. I wont even bother contacting those 2 business' as the response will not be worth the cost of me calling them. So I will have to replace the RF co-axials at R1500 for a new set :blueCry:
I also managed to run new power, ground and remote cables for the amplifier in the boot. Again, all cables have proper connectors on both ends and have been properly insulated. Tested that the amplifier is switching on / off with the Head Unit and all is good.
If time permits this week I will run new cables for the front splits to the amplifier in the both as I am getting an engine noise whine through speakers when the car is started / idling. I suspect it will be worse when driving but didnt test that due to the wiring being incomplete.
On a positive note, I discovered that the boot and fuel tank central locking pumps are still in the car but were disconnected by the connectors being unplugged. I plugged them back in but I know that the front door pumps are missing. I have replacement units that I bought from Stig and will have these installed soon. So hoping to get the central locking system sorted in the near future.
The total cost of all the lugs / connectors etc was under R200.............yet that was too much to spend for a business man to do a proper job.....go figure

Sorry PJ, I didnt take any pics this weekend but will take some tomorrow as the work is not completely done. The panels are still more or less stripped off so still possible take pics. I also need to make an adjustment to the back of the Head Unit as I just figured out that in order to play DVD's it needs a seperate ground connection which is normally connected to the handbrake and the head unit receives this when the hand brake is pulled up. This is a safety feature of the head unit. Now I have to strip the light green wire from the Head Unit plug and connect that to ground. I will most likely join that up with the black ground wire lug so that the DVD option is available even when car is in motion :rollsmile: as I dont have a habit of watching DVDs whilst driving. I simple dont want to fiddle with running a cable from the handbrake to the head unit. So will take some pics of the back of the headunit when I pull that out again. Just such a mission to get the head unit back in properly due to the mass of cables behind it - had to pull the vent above that out and fiddle around blindly to get everything to fit properly. Not a job you want to do repeatedly :smashScreen:
