The onboard mic is not super good, partly because it's very basic, and also because it is slightly enclosed within the GoPro's case. You can use a proper high quality mic and for this there is a skeleton case that is needed. The purpose of the GoPro is actually more inclined for flexibility and durability than all out sound and picture quality. And with the sealed case it can be used down to 40 or so metres under water.

So while the picture quality is good, the sound is lacking a bit - does not pick up turbo whistle for example or finer noises that your ears can hear. So will be investing in a nice mic at some point and the option skeleton case. Of course, same thing applies with my 550D DLSR - also can do with a proper mic and is really good for full HD vids! Better than the GoPro obviously, but far less convenient and practical for in car use being mounted.

From my perspective though, your car sounds fantastic - was actually trying to keep up with you in such a way that my car's engine was not too loud...

Thanks for the pics & vids Philip! Really nice for the guys like me who could not make it. Was up in Langebaan shooting the Mykonos Offshore Regatta. We ended up having 9 GoPro's on different yatchs over the 2 days of the event!! Looks like fun was had by all on the run. Have to say though...seems not many e39's representing..:thumbdo:

Wow! Would be keen to see some footage from this too!

Yep, we keep missing each other - and apart from the red M5 no E39's... :nonono:
