So....

Decided to flog my 2008 350z HR and buy a e90 335i. It's a 2010 model, 111k km's and plenty of M badges

I picked her up on Friday afternoon and she got dropped off at FR&R tuning this morning (Monday morning) for FBO.

Some pics below.

Congrats on your purchase bro, that's one awesome car. Enjoy her (and please do not forget to get rid of the ///M badge hehe).

I really want to remove the ///M Badges and stickers, but the last time I removed a badge from a cars body it messed up the paint pretty badly. Stickers will come off though!

Nice Ride congrats on the purchase my E90 335i was also littered with M Badges when I bought it, drove around for a while but then couldn't stand it anymore and started removing them with floss, hairdryer and some soapy warm water

congrats, i assume that you know the full history of the car and possibly the previous owner to go straight to fbo without any maintenance.

Maintenance is being performed along with the FBO, I have got the cars history such as the last service performed by BMW (less than 2000km's ago) and the new clutch that was put in approx 20 000 km's ago.

Will be doing oil change none the less with the install of the aftermarket oil cooler. I've paid school fees on turbo cars before, so I know how important maintenance (especially oil) is to longevity of the motor. Also replacing the leaking oil filter housing gasket and filter, replacing the LPFP with a stage 2 aftermarket Ethanol compatible unit, intakes will take car of air filter replacement.....

Great stuff, doubt Leon and Blues would recommend mods without the above anyway.

I am the limiting factor on this one, only wanting 400whp initially, so we looking for 400whp on the lowest boost possible and that's where she'll stay for a while.

She will be one of my daily drives, so I don't want to have reliability issues etc, and 400whp will be quite fun as a daily.

So.....

What a journey it has been so far, I've been keeping Leon super busy (Just a shout out to him & Kieran for all the hard work, I'm not the easiest person to have as a customer :tiptoe:). Seems I should have pulled the full motor plan history before buying the car instead of looking in the service book etc.

I still think the car was a good purchase when I consider what I paid for it, luckily due to this not being my first modded car, I had enough cash buffer for stuff to go wrong along the way.

Have decided that the end goal for this car is a single turbo build in the region of 600whp.

So here's a quick update, not in chronological order:

Front brake pads were finished, installed new ones, rear brake pads have 5k km left on them, then they'll be replaced too.

Previous owner was on clutch number 5 at 88k km, the 5th clutch change is the one that I found documentation of  Seems the flywheel isn't too "lekker" - Will be ordering a Spec Single mass flywheel and stronger clutch to handle the single turbo power when funds are available, it currently holds FBO power fine. The way I see it, I should have done better homework on this, "school fees", but the stock clutch wouldn't have held ST power anyway, so not a huge loss.

Car had 5 or 6 (memory isn't that clear at the moment) oil leaks that needed to be sorted as well as oil that contaminated the coolant. - All oil leaks have been repaired and engine has been flushed, repeatedly, and filled with fresh coolant etc

Car's Guibo and Centre Support Bearing were FINISHED - new Guibo and Centre Support Bearing installed and Propshaft balanced.

Car had a (very bad) patch up job on one of the upper coolant pipes, this started leaking and so on and so forth causing cooling problems - New pipe purchased and installed.

Car's PPK Fan relay packed up, purchased and installed a new one, wasn't happy with the fan speed, Leon and the team opened and modded the old one, much happier with the results.

Right hand engine mount is torn - 2 new mounts already ordered and paid for, including a heat shield for the turbo side mount, thanks Moranor@Axis

We think the turbo's don't have too much life left in them, rattling and don't want to make much more than 18.5 psi, so keeping an eye on those.

Mods carried out:
JB4
DCI's
Downpipes
Secondary CAT's Delete
Charge Pipe
Forge BOV
Big Tom style IC
Metal Boost Pipes
Oil Cooler
Vacuum Lines
Stage 2 Ethanol Compatible LPFP
AEM WMI Kit with progressive controller

So yeah, that's where we're at at the moment, hope I haven't forgotten too much out.

:ninja:

What is FBO, Got my 335i recently and still learning the ropes

FBO is "Full Bolt On" and normally refers to a certain level of modification. The correct explanation would be that you have every possible part that can simply be "bolted On" to your car in order to increase performance. But in reality, it's actually a specific list of parts, in many cases varying from car to car, that make a car FBO, usually including, but not limited to:

Downpipes
Exhaust
Intakes
Intercooler
and software of some kind (although not a "Bolt On" part)

In many cases other supporting modifications are required in order to run high power levels safely, but the above is the basics that is often referred to as FBO.

In most cases an FBO N54 with a good map will make 400whp or even more on a "happy" dyno.

You can learn alot about FBO 335's etc using google, it will also explain what the benefits of each part are and what combinations parts should be used in.
