Performance options for an E36 316i

Hi guys

I was wondering what options one has realistically for getting a bit more grunt out of a 316i (e36) without dropping too much cash?

Don't get me wrong, I love my car as it is - but one always considers tinkering.

At what point should one think, rather replace the engine or buy the next model up - I mean, sure, you might get another 30KW out of your engine by dropping R30 000 worth of upgrades, but then you could just as well buy the higher up model that is stock and has more headroom?

N02 kit. Mix some nitro-methane with your fuel, 30:70 but that would need a lot of cash though. Trade it for a 330D.

Engine conversion  get a scrapped or written off E36 with a bigger engine then do the swap. Easy to drop in a new engine, Eaws is an issue though so getting the whole donor car is th e way to go. also swap out the running gear, shocks springs etc....:=):

Decat, performance exhaust, chip, performance air filter, or cold intake system however due to MAF limits you wont notice much performance difference however gives the car a nice sound, or you could drop in a turbo, seen a few guys do it stably at 0.5-0.7 bar.

Thats about it. not much you can squeeze from the 4cyl motor.

Dont build what you can buy. Failing that, im sure a cheap NOS kit wouldprovide some silly fun

unless you willing to drop about 100k for a high boost turbo rather sell and buy something with a bigger engine...
