Nice work at what intervals is this recommended? Do u also change out the filter didn't see this in the pics.

Using the Beisan parts once in the cars life (apparently as we do not know this to be fact on a first hand experience basis)

The filter is not available on its own so it gets cleaned.

You can get the filter alone, I just got one the other day. Maybe your dealer is full of shit.
Thank you clearly he is however given that we have been buying from him for many years I had no reason to doubt him.
I shall insist that he comes clean(if you will excuse the pun).
However given that the filter can be cleaned with chemicals and as long as the mesh is not torn as Andy has demonstrated in his pic (thanks Andy) it is not really necessary to change

On second thoughts we shall give the owners the option of having it changed.
Thank you for pointing it out once again.

because we clean the whole Vanos unit anyway to make sure it does not get clogged... it does not really make sense to buy a new filter... we just clean the filter while we clean the unit...

If you not going to bother cleaning the unit then a new filter will save time but the filter could also get clogged up quicker if any of the gunk comes off with the engine running because you have disturbed it by opening the Vanos...

generally the S54 only sees castrol its whole life and it tends to leave a fair amount of Varnish and sludge compared to some other oils... not the end of the world if you keep ontop of your oil changes but it can build up quick if the correct oil change intervals are not done... because of this most units will have to be cleaned

An update on Riaan's car.
Roughly a week after the VANOS refurb he was hit with the dreaded cracked solder joints disease.

Valve block had to come out again and stripped to be re soldered.
The solder joints are 1,2mm in diameter which requires a special de-soldering station as well as a special soldering iron.

This is the first M3 we have come across with cracked solder joints on the solenoid control unit.

BMW repair costs somewhere in the order of R7000-R9000.

Riaan thank you very much for your kind words.
Your car is absolutely magnificent now and I wish you many Ks of enjoyment in good health

Now don't you forget the promise that you made me that you would call your son after me.......the correct spelling is P1T1R.

Just as an aside and to be honest I am not sure why but after the solenoid body was worked on the engine smoothness changed completely.
Not an absolutely distinctive change to the untrained ear but certainly for Riaan as well as Alexander and myself (as well as a friend who has an M and remarked how Riaans car sounded smoother than his 69K car) the engine was smoother and far more even.

Thanks Peter, yes....the car is definitely smoother and idles softer. Not sure why but i'll take it as a good sign. The vanos adjustment also feels smoother and not so jumpy when accellerating. I'm very happy with the car for now.

@vincent.....if your wife can go from 0-100 in under 5 seconds we have a deal...! :biglol:

You guys should see how smooth Peertjies' dyno graph looks like..compared to his previous runs at KAR.

Come on Peertjies!!!! Post that awesome graph.

With the solenoid / vanos fix...he gained about 4wkw and 5Nm
and his graph is a lot smoother what actually counts the most. Interesting none the less.

Awesome job Alexander/Peter! I love to see when people take such pride and joy in their work. Good to hear such raves.

My BMW (one day lol) will come visit you guys definitely!

Once again...thumbs up
