What an epic car!!1
Congrats man! Absolute beaut! :praise:

Those are some rare Alpinas. 17s by the looks of things. Wanted a set for my e34 M5. Only found one set. And it was attached to another 5'er

Congrats,

She is a beaut, still kicking myself for passing her over to PC. I was in two minds about getting her for myself, but decided PC will give her a great home. I inspected the car, in pretty good nick, Like PC said some minor issues mechanically and cosmetically, but she is a solid base to start with and no RUST!. Hopefully we will sort out the minor stuff shortly and PC gonna have a lovely car to join us with on the runs.

I envy those lovely 17" Orig Alpinas..I get first dibbs on them if you ever sell!!:tiptoe:

I hope you get many years of great joy with her..

Thanks for the kind words guys

Manual gearbox with cloth seats Anthracite Highland cloth interior- not sports seats- for some very inexplicable reason I quite like those "lounge chairs"....

The spec sheet on VIN# database states "Active drivers seat" anybody know what that is all about? Seats are not electric but was fitted with seat heating (controls on centre dash below radio)

And re those Alpina rims- hands off!

That could refer to the lumbar support lever between the seat and the handbrake, as mine had.

Great car, enjoy it :praise:

Right

So a short update on the Red Shark (thinking of changing the name to "The Money Pit")

Personalized plates registered and fitted...

So all tubes, hoses, rubbers, bushes, fluids replaced. Ditto trailing arms, mounts, steering rack, gearbox selectors etc. etc. etc. waiting for OEM coils & Bilsteins.

Immobilizer and central locking replaced. A/C gas retrofit done. New radio. Lots of other small things also

On the subject of the radio OEM is only 4 small speakers (+_ 5"X6"). 2 in L&R front footwells and 2 in rear "headrest" fairings. The mind boggles that this was deemed sufficient on a top end model (Sat in the brand new, just launched Volvo XC90 today- something like 19 speakers...)

Anyhoo, not wanting to cut holes in any trim or body panels I commisioned the good people at Car Hi-Fi Specialists in Vereeniging to scratch build two rear headrest fairings to mount 6"X9" Rockfort/Fosgate speakers. Glass fibre panels, molded on originals, covered in black vinyl. Will keep the originals safe. The tonal quality not brilliant but supposedly will improve as speakers need to be "played in".

Not perfect but actually very pleased with the result:

Heaps of space below the rear seats. My plan was to fit forward facing splits on th ebulkhead below the seats. There is space there for a sub too... it is actually a great spot for anything you need to fit.

Hey PC saw the car at Paul on the lift before he started working on it.
I wish you well with it

On Ricks car we went this route with the original carpet covering the speaker cones.

Thanks All

Will see how the current setup pans out. Loathe to cut holes in the bulkhead below rear seats but may need a subwoofer and fit there. Also got small kids that will be transported occasionally- wouldn't want a kiddies tekkie through a speaker cone... Believe me it will only be a question of time, an inevitable event

This post I think is known to the forum:

Fitting of 6X9" and subwoofer albeit in a 1989 635- interesting to note markedly different rear interior trim with a/c control for rear passengers. Some useful comments also
Of note also is holes cut (2 holes (edit): "bass reflex ports" I thank you) below where 6X9" fitted in recess/parcel shelf... Something worth considering??
To hole saw or not to hole saw.

I would not cut the rear parcel shelf as it forms part of the car crash structure.

Cutting under the seats is acceptable as that panel is there to support the seat squab.

Just my 0,02 cents worth
