I'm in the same boat, but will probably go OEM, after the shocking service I received from our local Meyle distributor.

thanks Hennie.did you have to do both the rack ends and tie-rod ends. Also, did they cause the car to wobble when braking?I changed brake pads and discs, now the car wobbles when braking at high speed, now they say its the tie-rods and rack ends.

your ball joints on suspension can also be the culprit do them before you do the rack ends and tie rod ends i must still do my ball joints but then i have a e 30 but the rack is a e 36 one
i did both sides

Shimmy when braking from 100kph to 80kph is usually caused by worn thrust arm bushes. They are designed to be replaced separately, I did mine and the shimmy disappeared.

Thanks for all the help guys.I took the car in for a suspension check, and they found play on the rack ends.everything else seems in order, so i will do the rack and tie-rod ends.Cheers.

Hey Mobin how much was the job, what all was performed and where did you have it done?

Howsit Kev,

My buddy thats works for BM did the work.I used autocom and echlin parts and labour was about R500, excl wheel alignment.the rack ends and tie rods were changed. The spares i got from a friend who works for a spares distributor, so i got it quite cheap compared to spare shops and the agents.
The control arms and ball joints were thankfully all fine.
cheers,

If these people are willing to deal with other forumites, it will be a great resource to have. At least the parts dude, I can understand why the mech might not want to do work for other people. Post up the details if they allow you :thumb:

Hi,

Spares for all bmw's can be obtained from QSV Spares Distributors in JHB Town.Contact person is Sham, and number is 011 220-1000/1034.Please say referred by Mobin.
Also try Bera's motor spares, Alberton, behind Mike Salt Auto. You can get them on 011-907-6931.They had a wide variety of BM spares, at reasonable prices.
