discussion Panoramic Sunroof Maintenance

My wife recently got a '21 X1 with the panoramic sunroof and I have noticed that the rubbers around the sunroof glass are already turning white after 6 months of ownership....

How do you maintain the sunroof rubbers and gaskets? Also I read online about lubricating the mechanism with a special type of grease? Any tips on where to source this or should I get the dealership to do this when the car goes for its service?

Was the car polished at all during this time? Could be polish residue on the rubbers as they shouldn't be turning white so soon.

Yes, it was detailed and ceramic coated before she collected it. Any idea how to remove this residue?

Perhaps get the detailer to rectify it but it would need to be cleaned with an all purpose cleaner first and thereafter treated with a trim restorer like Solution Finish or so. The detailer should have masked the rubbers before polishing.

Thanks. We had a bad experience with Ceramic Pro KZN who did the work. After collecting the vehicle I noticed dust particles that were embedded in the ceramic coating and highly visible on a white vehicle. The took their time in having this removed and the ceramic coating reapplied. The vehicle was first taken to them at an arranged time but there was nobody then available to work on the vehicle. Several further appointments were made where they were supposed to come to my wife's office to sort out but they didnt pitch. 2 months after it was first reported to them it was finally sorted out.

Wow sorry to hear bud. That's pathetic considering they charge an arm and a leg for their services. I can understand why you won't want to take it back to them.

Try the all purpose cleaner (Cleen Green, Prepsol etc.) Apply it to a microfibre cloth and on a small section to see if it works. May require some elbow grease. You could also use a toothbrush if the cloth doesn't help much.
