the e36 320i was a 6 cyl As far as i know so was the E46 320i

Whooops, thought he had a 318. Anyway, it will mean ECU remap, new injectors, gearbox is currently same as 318. Might be an option, but will still be quite a bit more expensive than just an engine swap.

Well, I have a e46 325 engine that am I not using, but maybe there will be to many problems or it will be too expensive to fit a e46 engine in a e36, plus when I bought the engine I had no experience whatsoever so I ended up probably paying way to much for it, so I have not really thought about selling it as I would make a massive loss (slight losses are fine :))

But if you are interested, maybe we can make a deal.

Rebuild vs Second hand, just to put this into perspective.

Last year I paid R 21 500,00 to rebuild my e36 318i engine. This included new pistons, rings, some new valves, new bearings all round, machining costs and obvioulsy a complete gasket set. Oh, and a new radiator and expansion.

We polished and re used the crank.

A second hand engine would have been around the 10k mark, and then I didn't know the mileage and the condition. I went for the rebuild.

rebuilding a 318 engine is a piece of pish compared to trying to rebuild an M52 block...

an e46 325 block is pointless trying to put in as the wiring is completely different and you have a different EWS system.....

The M52 320 is a 6 cylinder VANOS block....

The best suggestion IMO is to put in the M52 328...The 320 block is a very thirsty engine for what it does and you'll find the 328 block a lot more fun with about the same MPG as the 320...A friend of mine recently did this exact conversion as well as changing it from an auto to a manual....and he has the biggest grin on his face every time he drives it....
I canget you all the info you need on this conversion if you want to go ahead

2 of my mates are now going to put the V8 block into the e36's.....

then once you have the 328i engine in, you must find a 6 speed gearbox & then a 3.64 LSD.. And let the fun begin

And if you want ideas of the 328i & modding then speak to SirSparky As he has a highly modded one..

In fact why not put in the M3 3lt engine in.Just need to reinforce the chassis where the subframe bolts on...some 17" and M3 brakes...and LSD and off you go....286hp N/A at the fly as standard :)

well suprise suprise, got in the car to move it, machy wants it on saturday.

the car started drove it for a while the went to 3/4 mark by the time i got home.
felt the pipes, on the left of the therostat housing was still very cold and after the thermo was extremely hot.

is this the thermostat that has given up or the waterpump?

or should i just get both changed?
