Oven cleaner?

So busy cleaning the M5 underneath. Looks like there is 20years of oil stuck there.

Tried all the conventional methods, Prepsol, and Diesel etc etc.....limited success still did not get all the stuff of.

Then, tried something new, oven cleaner?

Has anybody tried this? Deep breath, it stinks, spray on, wait 10min, and underside of gearbox looks like new.

Anybody tried this?

I used oven cleaner on one of the wheels on our merc , it had years and years of baked on brake dust , it worked well , but I think it did take of some paint , not really noticeable .

I have never tried it on the undercarriage of any of our cars , but I was told that it can strip paint and damage aluminum parts .

couple years back wanted to clean brake callipers , was told that I could use oven cleaner but don't leave it on there for long as can do damage, also to keep it away from painted surfaces, especially painted one like the red ones on the gti

never ever tried it and just carried on the normal way

Alright overn cleaner is used in ovens in my job I clean many thinks the result is clear: oven cleaner may be corrosive and could push damage unto multiple parts if one is not careful.

There is aman who ones used oven cleaner to clean tarmacadam from the paint of his car, the impending result was not clear to him but it was clear unto me he managed to move paint that was on the car to the ground and secretly I knew it but I did not tell him as hewas aman who used to touch me in a very bad way.

I never thanked him as I was not pleased.

My uncle that is a mechanic once told me about chemicals. If you won't put on your testes then why do you put it on your car.

I have been using Mr min oven cleaner for years to remove caked on brake dust from the inside of mag wheels, best product for that job.

Just be careful with that stuff guys it dose ruin paint.

You best add decent wax on the paint after

lol learn something new everyday, i was going to say i usually use that Green Kleen stuff but now i am going to raid my wife's kitchen cleaning cupboard...:tiptoe:

Thanks for tip, will try this on my bakkie's undercarriage which has oil that I haven't been able to clean off.

Guy - I use Prepsol and it works fantastic for any thick grease - spray on and leave for and hour or so. spray off with power washer, then apply again and leave as long as possible - it will come off.

This stuff, don't let it dwell for too long.
