If your car is under MP, you should be able to get decent parts because you need it to go for a quality check at the dealer for MP to stay intact. If you know of any parts that are "pirate" you can always highlight this with the BMW dealer that does the check - the risk then lies with the dealership if they approve "pirate" parts which AFAIK they do not.

However, you may need to be aware of any "deal" between the dealer and the guy handling your claim. Hence, you need to go to the dealership when they are doing the quality check and "nag" them a bit.

If you know of pirate parts being fitted (e.g. some mechanical component) then go back to the BMW dealer and complain about it. E.g. if it is a suspension component, complain bitterly that the handling is not right after the accident and they did the quality check.

This is an interesting debate. I have been with a few insurance companies and I will be honest. You will get bad stories with every single one.

Lesson is that no matter who you are with they will always look for a way out/loophole/ to pay the least amount of money. I believe no matter what Keep my side clean, read the fine print and DON'T GIVE THEM REASON TO DISPUTE.

same goes for BANKS, Muncipalities, Cell companies, Edcon, basically anybody you do business with.

Outsurance quoted me R2300 p/m for insurance on my car. After a good laugh I got in contact with Mutual and Federal who quoted me R600. Haven't had to claim from them yet but sign-up, etc was a good experience (none of those idiot phone consultants).

I know that some fitters/repair centers don't care about the quality of their work, but for those that do and are forced to fit poorly fitting parts, it's a bad reflection on their business. I know one of the big glass fitting companies doesn't accept claims through Outsurance, Dial Direct, etc. Only places like Mutual and Federal, Santam, etc. Could be for a different reason though.

using pirate parts is wrong ... but just think  about it ... im having a e36 and there is no more new parts avaialable for the vehicle.... so second hand part will have to do

Go For Santam, they do not have hassles with claims.

Outsurance outsource their accessors, thus the accessors get commission on every rand they can save outsurance, causing this kind of crap to happen.

As For all the others Dial Direct, 1st for woman, Budget and most of the others springing up all over the place, are all underwritten by Auto and General, that have a very very bad reputation when it comes to payment of claims. They will look for any reason not to pay a claim.

Take for instance this HIPPO web site you can get up to 8 quotes from, all the companies on the list you get is underwritten by Auto and General.

PM Me if you want my brokers Tel No, They are underwritten by Santam and the pricing I got from them was the best off all the quotes I got.

Some parts fit, some do not.

If your car is under motorplan, it has to be repaired by an accredited OEM Bodyshop.

Guess what, you cannot get OEM approval for BMW, not any more, your either a BMW body shop, or your not :) (Its only BMW that does this)

If its done at a Approved BMW body shop, only original parts will be fitted, and if you and a 4 day old brand new car, then its worth it.

But the 4 year old in virtually perfect condition except for may a bumper or so, well lets just say it is not worth it.

I still say Santam is tops...

Every time I have asked outsurance for a quote to compare with others, they have been the most expensive.

+10 on the santam one, least crap, they pay fair market values for repairs.

I will be on the Santam panel from next month, just doing a transfer :)

:pimp:
I spoke to my wife last night again about this thread, and she confirmed the following:
Santam will use new parts where available, so like on my E46, if certain parts can't be found at the dealers, then they would go to other places, like Bemows to find the parts, BUT ONLY AFTER CONSULTING WITH THE CLIENT!!
The problem is the older cars like Oom Kar said, he has an E36 and obviously the dealer won't stock all those parts anymore, so then the insurance company would have to use 2nd hand parts, but me being the owner and client should at least be informed of to which of these parts could not be found, so that i can do proper inspection as to the condition of the 2nd hand spares.
PS: Anyone that is interested in getting quotes from Santam, feel free to contact my wife: Roche - 012 3312837/9 I am sure she would be able to get you a great quote

What I don't understand here is how items can not be available new from the dealers? Almost anything can be had through the dealers, like you could get the stuff for the e30 M3 through the dealers even though we never even got that car here, you just need to wait a couple of weeks.

I think Santam or Mutual and Federal is the only way to go. After I had my car sorted with MF I sent my broker details to my mom so that she could get a quote. Previously the house, her car and my brothers car were all insured through Outsurance (you get a slight "discount" with multiple policies), she phoned up my broker for a quote on the same items and is now saving R1000 p/m with slightly better cover too.

Santam is definitely the best.
I had numerous claims over many years with them and never had any hassles.
They also do not overcharge you like all the new mushroom companies that will pay you back some of the overcharged money if you do not claim.

outsurance was R1000 more for insurance than the next highest quote i got.

granted the week before I did write off my e36 328 :fencelook: (which actually was a very pleasant experience, seeing as I got R10K more back than I was trying to sell the car for in the first place :) )
