It really is amazing that these machines, They have some tech that might be considered nice and fresh in today's small cars and yet they are more than 10 years old.

Sigh...then this, this is just a nice ass car. :blowheart:

I'm pleasantly surprised that the Range hasn't given you serious problems cos legend has it that it is problematic. Your cars are in great condition, very nice!!!

My 2006 550i has getting on for 220 000km, and it has ruined me for other vehicles. Criminal value for what you get - plus it was the last 5 Series before they grew gargantuan and bland. Can't see myself in an F10 or the G-what-what, so I'll stick with my old-timer, which nobody believes is as old as it is.

Love the W124s. They have a quality which reminds me of my old E34 - solidity and wonderful handling for a car of that age.

Nice find on the Z3, really looks mint.

Your e39 looks good, these cars looked after, really age well.

There were a few things to sort out when I first got her but other than that nothing.
And she is strong, she really goes well.

But without doubt, expensive to maintain.

In the sense the suspension is rather complex and bushes need to be replaced every now and then.

But I would say the Jag motor is pretty bullet proof if you look after the cooling system.

The diesels are known to have issues far more than the petrol.

Love the 550, really great car!!

I had to take a few pics of my 550 quickly
The one I posted earlier did no justice to the car and thought I would make amends
Again, she is a 2008 with 63000 km (10 years old) my Insurance tells me book is less than 200 k.
She is worth way more to me..
For 200 k what can you buy new that could even begin to compare?
And I’m not sure what a new car has that this doesn’t..

Make no mistake, if something goes wrong it could be expensive but other than normal oil change every 5000 km and a complete flush of all fluids and filters every two years she costs me very little.
I think Insurance is less than R 500 bucks a month and I have the pleasure of not having to deal with the service departments of the Dealers.
Which is probably a huge mental obstacle to my buying a new car.

Older cars for me were built the Best...
Just like everything else, all good things come to an end

Gone are the days you can buy an M3 Brand new and put on 300k on the clocks and she is still going strong..
Today, you have to change bearings every 100k kms. LMAO

Some photos of my tractor. I absolutely love the car and it ticks all the boxes for me and it runs like hell. An added bonus is that I am pretty sure my 11year old BM could tow faster than most other cars could drive unladen ,not that I would like to test it:hammerhead:

@OP you have a stunning car man, those E60s are so rare in Msport trim and that lovely motor:praise:

Nice colour, looks good.

Glad to see I'm not the only one loving their oldies.

Amazing when you get to see pics of other peoples older cars that there are some really well maintained cars out there which will be running for many years to come.

Damn, that W124 230 e is just amazing. I imagine that thing still rides brilliantly.

She is perfect bud

Amazing car and will set at 150/160 all day and use less than 10l/100.

I do huge mileage private travel, and drive none of my cars as a daily.

So they are all only used for long distance travel which keeps them good I guess.

Nothing wears out a car more than being a daily.

I'm fortunate to work from home so dont commute anywhere.
Then I travel to the farm most weekends, 600 km round trip, and try to spread the mileage evenly.

Generally its a decision of what type of drive I feel like and choose accordingly.

Amazingly, some of my quickest times are in that old Merc.

Your 550i must be very rare - I haven't seen many LCI models for sale, let alone ones as well-specced as that. Love the light interior.
In the time I've had mine, the only thing that has gone wrong is the usual BMW waterpump issue. Other than that, routine maintenance. There is nothing for double or even triple the value that is as nice to use every day, and that's why these barges are such bargains.

Hey Budleigh

Yes she was a nice find, when I got her she had 46000 km on

I was looking at the E60 M5 at the time but was advised against it and then I found this one at Continental Motors in PE.

The previous owner loved the car and phoned me for months after to see how she was doing.

Even though I actually got her from the BM Dealer.

They flew me down and I drove her back - awesome.

She has cooling as well as heated seats, full climate control, the electronic towbar, Heads up display, active suspension, that infra red camera thingy, I thinks its called night vision, the comfort seats are amazing, came with top range sound and proff navigation.

I have no idea what were options and what was standard etc as I just got her like that.

Some better pics of the Motorsport for the fans of these cars.
She is chipped by RG Motorsport with full free-flow, she is strong!

The only issue with old cars is if you have a write off.
Or bad accident.
Because Insurance values the car by some little book, and whether your car is a piece of junk or immaculate, they pay book value and that’s it.
So I lost a lot of money when a horse galloped straight into me one evening and wrote my Patrol off.

She was a beauty 2008 with 80000 km on but sadly no more
This was April and I had her super-charged in December. Ouch.
Anyway.. have found a replacement and the Super charger will be going onto the new one shortly
wp_20180402_09_51_17_pro[1]_1748562674.jpg

So the replacement took a while to find..
I travelled far and wide to find one which just needed a bit of a good clean and polish to make her look new again.
Also a 10 year old car but was filthy when I found her.
But I could see she was still good
It took 4 of us two full days to get her to start looking like something.
Amazing what a good clean can do..

I swear I’ve altered the eco-system of my yard with the dirt that came off her..

But she is starting to look good again.
