Cool bud. They moved the filler in about 1981 if I am not mistaken. I am not a big E12 guru but that is my understanding. It was a facelift. But either way,the older E12's and the newer E12's are awesome. I will add one to my collection one day (when I get a bigger garage!)

Just some updates, the 535i is actually a e12/8 that was built when Germany had started the e28 production, while South Africa was still producing the e12. On these cars depending on availability of spares, they are all different, I.e mine has the e28 indicators on the side. E12/8 were only available in South Africa.
