Dude, with radio's being so cheap these days it might be more expensive to repair than to replace.

I think he want to repair the blaupunkt one because it is the OEM radio for his car, that and the fact that most aftermarket radios look rubbish in BMW's.

I've had surprising success with my company bakkie's radio and amp (after dust and vibration took it's toll) at some guy sitting in a shack in a squatter camp. That was like 8 years ago, but then I realized that talent sometimes are found in the most unlikely places.

Adi, it could be something simple. Have it checked out by an amateur electronic guy as this could give you an indication of where the trouble is and he probably won't charge you a nut just for the inspection.

Thanx, any pointers towards some electronics amateur? As IT / HR Expert, I am challenged in that area.

The radio comes on can tune into stations, can play a tape.
However no display, and the right channel is weaker then left.....

yes, the intention is to keep the car OEM, this Blaupunkt was the radio fitted in the German version of this car, unless....
Unless somebody has a Pioneer Kex31 for sale that was the radio that was in the car here in SA

I have an e36 M3 tape deck if interested. I was going to fit into an e30 but that car has been on stands for the past 8 months already and I doubt it will be driving in the next year or two.

If you can get it down here somehow, I'll give it my best, have repaired a few in the past.

If the radio is working,ie, tuning into stations and you have sound, then it could be the back light for the LCD panel that is defective, or there is a loose connection in the LCD circuitry. I could look at it for you but I am in JHB. Regards. RP.

Thanx JHB is perfect.....getting 2 more radios on Sunday from Cape Town. Will test....if there is a working one, will install, if not will give u a shout so maybe out of 3 we can get one that is working 100%
