Ok my gearbox is BROKEN!

Hey peeps, how have you all been.

Ok i posted something up here about 2 weeks ago explaining the problems i have been having with my 2000 330i auto gearbox.

I broke my foot also last week so been unable to drive.

I decided to take the car fo a spin to see if the problem is the same and its even worse!

When i put the car is auto it stay in 3rd or 4th gear and will not go up or down, now i believe thats limp mode. So i put the car in manual mode and it drives fine for about 5 minutes then it selects 4th and stays there with the warning light on.

There is also a humming noise coming from the gearbox so it must be bust!

Who can i take my car to that wont take my whole arm in charges?

Ok spoke to 2 gearbox guys and they both have said its going to cost a min of 15k!

Pretty much 15k is the start... and it could go up double depending what is wrong.

You could try and just change the oil, and you may be lucky that solves the issues, but you have a 70% chance at least that the box will come out.

Alternatively there is the scrapyard option as well and flog the car..

But the cheapest way out of this is a manual conversion.

Chat to Gizmo, I know he has done quite a few E36/E46 box swaps, and he is prob the best in sourcing the box anyway

Gizmo will be able to get you the parts for an E90 6 speed box, & all the other goodies with it for close to R12k. If he's willing to do the swop & you pay for his labour then that will be the best option.

St L, thing is, you ARE stuck with a minimum expense of 15k for this exercise. Rather use that 15k 'differently' to optimize your car...
