Hello All,
This is my very first post, so please be patient. I am also not good with cars. I am seeking help with diagnosing vibration which I feel in the cabin and steering wheel of my 2005 BMW 320i E90 N46. I recently had the red oil light come on in the morning when I start up. I took it to a independant mechanic who found that the timing chain guides as well as the oil pump chain guides where broken. He replaced the chains and guides.
He then found out that there was a hole in the oil pump and said it needs to be replaced (+-R13 000.00 from BMW). I didn't have that kind of money and settled for a second hand one which he told me came from a mobile vehicle.
Now the problem (sorry for the long intro). After replacing the original oil pump (which has a balancer shaft), I am feeling vibration when I drive the car. It does not vibrate when idling. I also NEVER had this vibration since owning the car (10years+).
I am having difficulty in trying to get the mechanic to check if he has installed the pump/balancing shaft correctly, as he thinks that something else like the engine mounts is causing the vibration.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could assist in showing me how to proove that the installation of the oil pump/balance shaft is incorrect. If the installation is correct, then what else could now suddenly cause this annoying vibration, which wasn't there prior to the replacement of the original. Thanks to all.
