Thanks for posting.

So just to double-check: You had the oil replaced as well and your gearbox did not blow up on the way home? Who would have thought?

Seriously though, I would appreciate feedback on your longer-term experience following the oil change. I am going to take my X5 for a gearbox oil change as well, despite all the "advice" that new oil is somehow bad for a gearbox.

Haha don't worry I've asked him the same question, he then took me and Chef to the back where all the gearbox recons are and he explained to us why and what happens when one does a gearbox flush on a gearbox that has some mileage on, the gears in the gearbox has a friction zone that has a shiny layer, when you doing a flush one actually removes the old oil from that gear and with the new oil that needs to get in there causes it to slip and so on (because of the gear that has some wear on it now), that's the reason why the only change the oil unless you do a gearbox recon then the will have to flush it, but then the gears will be reconed and the problems wont happen.

I've replaced the Sleeve kit, Sump, Gasket, Filter (comes with new pan) and then new oil has been put in - no flush just oil changed...

Seems my theory was correct in some parts:joy:

Hi Guys,

So i got my car back from ZF and all i can say is DAMN!!!!...
What a huge difference when changing gear. Its so smooth and changes much quicker...No lag or jerk...

Even when selecting P,D,N,R it does not even have that slight movement.
When changing from reverse to Drive it does not have that slight hesitation. It changes so quick..

I am really Happy. Nico is an awesome guy. He dropped me home yesterday from Germiston to Centurion and fetched me this morning.

He even fitted new o rings on my oil feed at no cost as there was a slight leak.

I also had an engine leak to which bmw said was the oil filter housing. Nico even cleaned my engine and monitored where the leak was coming from. He pointed out the oil level sensor which had a leak..

I am really happy. They know what the doing and make sure you get a car that is 100% perfect.

At a cost alot more cheaper than BMW...why the hell not?

Ask them what flush the recommend against please vrsexy

Hey bud,

I asked him this but he wasn’t sure what you meant.

Apparently they don’t add any chemicals to the gearbox when doing a flush.
They drain the old oil. Fill in new oil. let the car idle and so on and drain again.

Apparently not all cars can even have an oil change done. He has some diagnostic that reads the clutch’s and oil reading. and only if it is within a certain spec can you do an oil change.

He did explain why they don’t do the flush but it was too technical for me to remember.

According to the ZF website, oil change must be done between 80k to 100k.

This is a gearbox chemical flush

You can read about the different types of machine flushes here http://mdhmotors.com/transmission-flush-when-and-when-not-to-flush-transmission/

Guys,

Quick update. Car has been to ZF 3 times already as the gearbox was still leaking after the service and new pan. They tried many things and did it 3 times over. Thicker gasket, sump sealant over the gasket and tried torqueing the bolts more but still no win.

So the gearbox is still leaking from the sump right now.

They have ordered an x5 steel sump and will be trying that this week.
New filters and bolts for the x5 housing as well.

Lets hope this sorts it out.

are they sorting it out at their expense or do you have to fit the bill for all this work?

New gaskets and topping up the new oil after it was drained 3 times was at their expense.

When they told me they want to rather put in an X5 casing instead of replacing the new sump, which could have a factory defect, with another one i asked about price and they said they will sort it out.

Really good guys and never once showed me signs they were irritated or anything, they just joked and said i like thier company :biglol:

They did say the steel sump is an option you can have for about R1000 more than the plastic one.

So just FYI if any of you guys go in for a new pan, rather pay the R1000 and get a proper steel sump.
