What if its over 100k km..... like by allot :fencelook:

I dont believe this 100k story. I mean i can put on alot more wear on my box within 50k, chasing after pink mini's and loosing than a normal person driving the car till 200k....

fixed
Oh no look who it is :biglol:

So went to ZF. Nico was very kind and helped me out, they took off the belly pan and we could see it leaking from the sump gasket at the back side and the sleeve.

Option 1 - use old oil and top up with new sump

Sump - R2300
Sleeve - R180
2 Hrs - R480 x 2
Oil - R185 x 4 (could use less)

R4765 Inc VAT

Option 2 - Use old sump with new Gasket

Gasket - R200
Sleeve - R180
2 Hrs - R480 x 2
Oil - R185 x 4 (could use less)

R2371 Inc VAT

But now im in 2 minds, dont know if I must use the old oil and just get it topped up or while am it get new oil in...

My car is now on 153k km

Thanks bud for all the info you sent me while you was there

as I said option two is more cost effective but you said that would mean no filter change.

Is the filter really on the pan? Watched a few diy on the web and it looks like the filter is separate.

Is ours different?

if thats the case might as well do everything one time. Pan..filter...sleeve...oil change and know its done and over with

Now that you said it I went on Google and found the part number for the filter it seems like: 24117593565

So now I'm deurmeka, as I asked and the filter and he said that comes with the new sump/pan

Spoke to Ricardo now. Said the filter is on the sump and cannot be changed without the pan.

So i will just do the whole thing one time:bangdesk:

Dropped the car off this morning - I'm getting the oil changed as well. So final price is a tad more.

But before i left he quickly drained a bit of oil out of my sump to see the quality and he said he was actually surprised at 150k km as it didn't smell burnt and he said one can actually still use it and just top up, but he said ill have to replace it in the future - so while they busy with it now I might as well just do the oil change as he explained to me

Thanx to Chef for giving me a lift back to work

No problemo.

Their prices aren't as bad as I was told.

They'll have my GM box completely redone (full recon) for between 12k and 17,5k.

All the best bud. I went there last year as my box was lurching when coming to a stop when car is warm. I was told my box is gone and would need to replace it for 75k new, or 35k recon.

I drove away sadly, and my gearbox hasn't gotten any worse since, so will do a DIY of filter/sump replacement 1st failing which i'll just sell the car or buy a new box..

Could your issue be the soft stop function?

Thanks for posting.

So just to double-check: You had the oil replaced as well and your gearbox did not blow up on the way home? Who would have thought?

Seriously though, I would appreciate feedback on your longer-term experience following the oil change. I am going to take my X5 for a gearbox oil change as well, despite all the "advice" that new oil is somehow bad for a gearbox.
