Oil dipsick

Hi Guys

Was just wondering, this morning I checked my oil & saw two spots of 'yellow substance' on the bottom of the dipstick. Last night was extremely cold & was wondering if this could be condensation? I wiped it off & checked the oil twice & the oil was normal. My car doesn't smoke at all & I there doesn't seem to be any coolant loss, never overheated either. Drove the car hard on the highway now & checked the oil when I got back & the oil is still normal.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like condensation  how do you drive your car..short journeys?

Yes, most of the time its just short trips. Checked again this morning & oil is still fine. Really hope its just condensation, nearly had a heart attack when I saw it, even though it was just two specs, gave me a good fright :)

its quite well known for condensation to form when using the car for short journeys...It's a good idea to go for a longer run every so often to get the engine right up to temp and will sort this problem....

mmm... Just drove the car now & I noticed a slight greyish discolouration under the oil cap only visible under sunlight, nothing more on the dipstick. The car is still behaving normally. Should I have some tests done to make 100% sure or am I being paranoid?

Where in the northern suburbs can I have this done & how much does it cost?

Do a sniff test  You can get the chemicals off the internet and DIY..it'll appease your conscience....Personally think you're been paranoid because you haven't mentioned anything about overheating etc....condensation can form on the oil filler cap and didpstick if you only use the car for short journeys....and more so in winter than summer too....

Thanks StK, reckon you probably right about me being paranoid. I'll keep a eye on it & if it gets worse I'll have it checked out
