so in may 2009, SMG canal walk replaced the entire sunroof "cartridge". yesterday it broke.

does anyone know if there are warranties on new parts, and how long they are?

I would say 12 months.

I'd also go for 12 months at least, but in general that units should last years. You have not started with the di-noc yet, or did the roof painting have anything to do with it?
