Hi guys

I'm looking to get a scanner for my cars, and one that will allow me to program some features. What do you guys recommend? I know nothing about these things. :hammerhead:

I believe they aren't expensive. Seen a Wifi one on gumtree for R550.

you dont want a obd2 scanner, you want a bmw protocol spesific scanner like a INPA interface + software, or something like carsoft, or any of the other bmw spesific scanners.

an OBD2 scanner will just return generic obd2 codes which is next to useless.

Just having the cable won't get you anywhere. You need to have intimate knowledge of using the tools as well. Sure, if you spend enough time anyone can do it but it's a lot of fidgeting to get things to work right, and you very well might make thing worse if you randomly adjusting settings.

I've assisted many fanatics with this before, so if there's something specific you want coded PM or call me. 083 454 6370

As a suggestion, It Depends if you know what you're doing.

My car was giving problem So I ended up looking into buying obd2 tools also.
At first I bought a "kit" that had a cable that supports INPA and the software that BMW used. I thought it was a good idea till I had it setup and plugged in. Turns out it's not that simple. The software could allow me basically change anything I want. Not knowing what is what I was doing at all told I should just leave everything alone as I could risk wiping my entire ecu out. So basically it's just sitting in a cupboard.

Due to being scared of using the above one, I forked out more money and bought a generic Bluetooth type. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth one is are Very basic And pulls generic faults. A bit silly Cause then you need auto data to find what the codes are.
Functions are Very limited.

So in conclusion, you will need to decided if you want something powerful or basic? Will you be able to not break anything if you buy the powerful one?
Or if you have money to spend, buy both. Haha!

P.s might decided to sell mine, because in genuinely scared to use it.

If you are scared then get the pasoft one. They are about 2000 for the e63 but they are extremely simplistic to use and allows for all coding

Also. There are apps designed to make inpa more user friendly namely "ncsdummy". It gives you descriptions of everything and doesn't allow you to input invalid values
