Well I have a carpc. Got the reader. Use to display stiff like temperature rpm load air temperature fuel pressure Nd so on. Would a reader permanently connected damage the system? And will BMW have an issue with it in terms of motorplan?

Is your car under motorplan.

If it is, they may give you grief, or if you ever have motor issues, motorplan can say that you were interfering with electronics and not pay, but if your exhaust gets a hole in it, they may look past it.

If your car is out of warentee, they would not give a damm. I have gotten the OK from BMW to install an aftermarket sound system on my E65, they just will not cover the radio/amp if anything goes wrong.

Interfacing with the OBDII, could be seen as interfering with the computer, and you may pick up problems.

Silly question but if its plugged into the port then can you not just unplug it -send it for a service then plug it back in when they are done...I am sure they need the port to run their own diagnostics...No?

Yes I could. But I want to make the install neat and the reader under the carpet and.the wires also.....

WIll continious use of the port damage it?

Continious use will not damange it, its just a tap into the bus, and as log as your only ready from the bus, there should be no problem.

Is it just a tap? I thought It polled the ecu for info...

You will increase traffic onto the bus, its not quite "polling" or establishing a single way communication with the various ECU's, more like issueing commands into the bus and waiting for a response.

If your worried about putting stain on the ECU, you can get your data from the cluster or the IKE module, I am not too sure how clever your software is and if you can do that.

but you dont think it will damage anything hey?

and do you think if they find the obd2 reader connected on the port, they will give me grief when i take my car for a service?

It wont damage anything as long as it does not corrupt bus communication, which it really should not.

As for the servicing, you could void your motorplan. if you dont have a motorplan, they would not care
