The rear numberplate on my E39 appears to be stuck on with double sided tape to the boot lid. Should there not be a numberplate base or holder, as on the front?

Not necessary unless you wanna make the car look more ugly with that black holder. This gives it a nice clean look therefore they used double sided tape for the rear plates....in fact, most cars out there hardly use the black holders for the rear plates, cant remember when last ive seen one with the holder...
No probs.....You just got me thinking know bout the new laws with regards to number plates. I believe that we have to switch to those metal plates now.....So, does this mean that our existing perspex plates needs to be swopped/exchanged for those metal one's or does this only apply to people that register their cars now and receive those metal plates??
Personally, i dont like those metal plates.....

I don't know when it's gonna happen,:dunno: but when you go and renew your license they are going to give a new number to you and you will have to go and make a set of that ugly metal plates, like they did from the T numbers to GP. :banghead:
Maybe Coisman can give some accurate info on this?
In Cape Town the metal Plates will be stolen and sold as scrap metal.
When I bought my car it had those ugly black holders on. I removed it and used double sided tape to fix it to the car... The black holder took the paint of my car and it still needs to be sprayed or something, but those things are really crappy.
