Number plates broken

Hi guys,
I went to the Brightwater Commons this afternoon to get to stuff from PicknPay. Parking in the front was full so I parked on the side.

After my shopping which took about 10 minutes, I get to my car and I see my rear number plate broken in 2. the half was on the floor and the other half was still stuck on the boot with the double sided tape.

There was no car guard patroling that side of the parking so could not ask anyone anything.

Just threw the plate in the boot and left. Got home and pulled out the other half. Now i have no rear plate.

Question: Are the cops going to give me hell for this now and can I still get plates or am I now supposed to change over to the new number plates:bangdesk:

I'm sure that with the right documents you can get a new one. I know if it's stolen it needs to be reported to the police but not sure about a broken plate.

Just go and make a new plate, you don't have to switch over to the new format, they will just make you a new plate, take your registration certificate with, and ID, and I am sure you would be able to get it done.

I have personalized plates. Once hit a pigeon and cracked the front plate in two. I had to write a motivational letter as to why I needed a new plate as the personal plates are only issued by the dept themselves.

As for the normal plates, do like Coisman said. No re registration needed.

I would just for safety sake stick the broken pieces back on till you get the new plates as taking everything off looks like you are trying to undermine the law.

The bigger question for me is......... how did it happen?

How can the numberplate just break in half, and the tape only holds one half up, while the other falls to the floor?

Or maybe..... someone was trying to pull it off, and it broke, rendering it useless, so they just left the piece on the floor and got out of there. :thumbdo:

Jenich, stick to the legal ones, trust me.
Also they only make the metal plates now, so getting a plastic one might be hard.
