Attention Forumites

We have mentioned in the recent past that upgrades and maintenance of the forum and its database were imminent. Said upgrades and maintenance have begun as of this evening and so you may experience downtime or browsing interruptions in some way, at any time. We will attempt to keep the downtime limited to late hours and/or weekends however we're unable to guarantee that, so please bear with us. And thanks for understanding.

If you experience any issues for an extensive or unusual time period, please feel free to email [email protected] and we will look into it as soon as we can.

With ^this^ being our forum homepage more often than the normal one, and no Tapatalk integration I am finding myself visiting more international BMW forums than our local forum. Am I alone? :fencelook:

We share the frustration.
We placed an advert on various social media for a developer/coder familiar with the MyBB platform to assist us with the forum upgrade and migration away from afrihost and we have received an interest but no applications have come in.

Thats where we are now.
Our email is: [email protected]

Please correct me if I am wrong, from how I interpret it, this forum is looking for someone to do this job (what ever is needed to be done) for free?

The forum has been experiencing issues for months now, its a pity that the revenue generated from ads & paid advertisers is not enough to pay for the upgrades.

In the current state of decline this fo rums will surely die a slow death?

I was previously chirped at when I said something along the lines of "don't fix what ain't broke"

Amazing how "upgrades and improvements" can stuff up a good thing eh?

Maybe the process should be done in two stages: move the platform as is to a reliable host and then tackle the upgrade afterwards? I might not know MyBB as platform, but such a host migration shouldn't be a major step to perform. Drop me a PM if you need my help.

It wasn't broken by upgrades. These still need to happen.
What it does look like, there was some sort of corruption, and the regular backup restoration process for some reason only restore *some* tables in the database. Luckily, I was able to source a recent good copy of the database from our hosting provider and very little should be missing from the latest outage.

Will be adding additional backups to make the restoration easier. It was a hefty size to work with so it made the restoration process slow.

The upgrades will be tested offline on a different host, before attempting them on the main website. This, touch wood, will hopefully make the process smoother and unexpected things can be figured out without impacting the website.

I hope this helps clear things up and I really hope I can make things better going forward.

Chef let me at once say I know less than f all about computers aside from the belief that they are the devils best work.

That said what I cannot in my practical mind understand is how this forum ran faultlessly without downtime for years but now in recent times doesn't.

What changed from then to now??

And every time I post since the last few times this forum was down I get this message

MyBB Internal: One or more warnings occured. Please contact your administrator for assistance.
